Recap

Jason Harris comes to see Detective Amaro after he receives a phone call from his runaway teenage daughter who is working as a prostitute in New York. Harris was deployed with Amaro's wife and just arrived home to find his daughter missing. The detectives locate his daughter, Vicki, and arrest her for prostitution, but they don't want to prosecute her. They get her to turn on her pimp, Trey, and eventually make a deal to bust Trey's clientele.

Among the arrested johns is a renowned quarterback named Jake Stanton. Stanton appears confused and disoriented, a condition his wife Georgia says has been getting steadily worse over the years, especially at night. Stanton displays all the symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) from all his years of concussions and physical trauma. Benson, feeling sympathetic for the Stantons, suggests Bayard Ellis as a possible pro bono attorney.

Ellis enters an insanity plea for Stanton who dislikes the label and rejects the idea that he has dementia. In court, Ellis lets the proceedings continue late into the day, causing Stanton to sundown on the stand and appear incoherent. Stanton is found not guilty, but can't deal with the pressure and stress of his confusion and the scrutiny of the press. He shoots himself outside the courthouse.

Amaro: Not the kind of guy I'd expect you to represent.
Ellis: You mean a white guy?
Amaro: You're going to play the race card already, really?

It's all PR. He's a heat-seeking missile.
