The mutilated body of Chief Karen Decker is found near the the street car station. Loretta had seen a similar case years before. She gets spooked when Sebastian walks in on her. LaSalle and Gregorio go to the site where phone calls to Decker had come from, and find out it's the murder scene. The suspect is Jack Gordon, just out of prison. Both Decker and Loretta had testified against him in the murder case of Karen Ortega, killed the same way. LaSalle and Gregorio offer to protect Jack's lawyer, Devon Mitchell. Pride visits with Loretta to protect her. Loretta is concerned that she projected her anger at her abusive husband onto Gordon. Gordon goes to Loretta's house, where Pride captures him. He proclaims his innocence and that he didn't kill Ortega. Gordon tells about a photo of Ortega in which she was wearing a necklace, which had disappeared after she was killed. Loretta concludes Gordon was innocent. Mitchell killed both Ortega and Decker. He knocks out Sebastian in the lab and he holds Loretta hostage. Pride wanders in and Mitchell starts shooting. Loretta throws acid in his face and he goes down. Pride suggests that Gordon help out with the Innocence Project. Gordon visits and thanks Loretta.
