The Conners Season 1 Episode 3 Review: There Won't Be Blood

at .  Updated at .

The Conner family tradition of going all out for Halloween was alive and well tonight.

It didn't take long for the Conner family to get in the Halloween spirit on The Conners Season 1 Episode 3, and boy did it bring back a lot of memories.

The great thing about Roseanne was the yearly tradition of their Halloween episode because it showed the kooky side to this family. They never cared what people thought and let their freak flag fly high on Halloween.

It was wonderful having the family keeping the tradition alive while also coming up with some extremely inventive costumes especially considering the costumes revolved around various puns -- Becky's costume was the clear winner of the evening.

I wasn't surprised they decided to tackle the school having a problem with "insensitive" costumes considering the Conners are the first family of Halloween. Dan made some excellent points as well.

There was no way Dan and Roseanne would have let the school get away with keeping their kids from wearing certain costumes. Mark's was one of the least offensive costumes I've seen this year.

Darlene And Mark - The Conners Season 1 Episode 3

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the creativity behind Mark's new costume of Frida Kahlo? If I were Mark, I would have just thrown a sheet with holes over my head and called it a day. He takes after Darlene in so many ways with his artistic abilities.

We all knew Mark's new costume was going to cause an issue at the Halloween festival for his school. The reasoning behind it was incredibly ridiculous.

Who's offended by a ninja costume? I've lived in Lanford my whole life and I have yet to run into a ninja.

Dan

I know they were exaggerating things to make a point, but it made me furious. Mark was dressed up as Frida Kahlo because he wanted to show appreciation for her as an artist -- there was nothing wrong with what he was wearing.

Dan And Jackie - The Conners Season 1 Episode 3

There was no malice or disrespect behind any of it, and he spent a lot of time creating this beautiful piece of work. Thank goodness Darlene was there to stick up for him and express how insane the rules were.

Mark and the rest of the children he goes to school with all want to wear specific costumes because they are fans of the people they are dressing up as. It's sad to see such an innocent thing getting torn apart.

Moving on to Jackie, who else had a love/hate for her boyfriend, Peter? Mattew Broderick did a fantastic job of playing a know-it-all professor who leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Peter - The Conners Season 1 Episode 3

I'm a little surprised Jackie was able to get such a catch considering he's not only successful but brilliant whereas Jackie can be somewhat of a basket case; though the two of them work surprisingly well.

Dan's opinion of Peter was justifiable given the fact Peter insulted Dan's intelligence by lumping him in with other people who are more interested in sports instead of academia.

I want your opinion. I do not want you teasing him. This family has a history of chasing off all the unstable men I bring into my life but Peter's different.

Jackie

Jackie pressing Dan to give his honest opinion about Peter was hilarious. Jackie was so used to the way Roseanne shut down any man she would bring home whereas Dan kept his mouth shut until he was alone with Roseanne.

Dan And Darlene Have Fun - The Conners Season 1 Episode 3

It's a new dynamic for their relationship, and I'm ready to see Jackie bring Peter around again or even a new guy for Dan to evaluate.

Who else was cracking up when Darlene was trying to get a job at McNasty's? You would have thought someone like Darlene would fit in perfectly with a position where you are encouraged to be rude to people but she was vastly overqualified.

It had me in stitches when Gary was encouraging Darlene to be rude to him, and the only thing she could think to do was insult his looks. Some people are meant to be rude for fun, and some are just meant to be rude to be mean.

Becky's Unique Costume - The Conners Season 1 Episode 3

I was disappointed we didn't get more of the Halloween party the Conner family was throwing. The past pranks the family would play on each other was always a highlight, and I was hoping for at least one prank.

At least we did get the semi-prankish moment with Mary jumping out from the backseat when Harris was trying to drive, but it still felt as though something was missing.

It's clear The Conners is still trying to find themselves and are slowly coming into their own. They are keeping certain traditions alive while creating new ones to set themselves apart from the original Roseanne.

Geena And Mary - The Conners Season 1 Episode 3

I'm interested to see if they are going to do a Thanksgiving and Christmas themed episode this year and how they will tackle Roseanne not being there for both holidays. What can I say I am a sucker for an enjoyable holiday episode of basically anything on TV.

Now it's your turn to tell me what you think.

Did you enjoy this Halloween themed episode? What were your thoughts on Mark's costume?

The Conners Season 1 Episode 3 Quotes

Harris: Oh my god! You guys won't believe what happened. I passed my driving test!
Jackie: Apparently it's pass everyone day.
Harris: Come on! I'm not that bad of a driver.
Jackie: I let you drive home and you made a garbage truck swerve. You don't see something that big on two wheels everyday.

Hey, this is a good box. We got a bloody foot on a hook and a dissected alien and some tax returns. Ooooh! The IRS believes we have a home office.
