NCIS: New Orleans Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Outlaws

Men. Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.
That's the enjoyable subplot of NCIS: New Orleans Season 3 Episode 7, as one male and two females on the team deal with their personal baggage.
The male in question is, naturally, LaSalle, who was told on NCIS: New Orleans Season 3 Episode 6 that he was a daddy. It obviously hasn't been a smooth transition, as he admits to Gregorio, the only one who knows his secret.
Gregorio, who always has one foot out the door toward Washington, begs off and suggests that LaSalle talk to Pride, an older, wiser head.
You know what? You oughta talk to Pride about this. That man's got more homespun advice than Dr. Phil.
Gregorio [to LaSalle]
After LaSalle's stream-of-consciousness confessional, Pride tells him what everyone else on both sides of the screen have been telling the big-hearted lunk: Be sure he's yours.
It was hilarious watching Papa LaSalle using a football as his practice toddler while he watches instructional videos online. He looks like he's ready to spike the ball, which just wouldn't work with a real child.
At least Percy voluntarily re-enters a relationship. Granted, it served as an entry into one of the two motorcycle clubs clashing in the background while the team attempts to solve the murder of a veteran sailor.
Percy claims that Ramon was just her informant, that theirs was a professional relationship. But the sounds Gregorio and Patton hear coming over the wire say otherwise.
Patton: You think ...
Gregorio: Yeah, she screwed him. No doubt.
Against all odds, Percy and Gregorio worked as partners, as the cagey Pride predicted.
As much as those two bark at each other, they're good together.
Pride [to LaSalle]
Commiserating with Percy afterward, Gregorio let loose her deep dark secret involving a bad boy: she was the ex-wife of McKinley, who embezzled rebuilding funds after Hurricane Katrina, causing Gregorio to flee town. It's the same secret that Pride had hinted at earlier in the season.
Hard to believe, but Patton and Gregorio worked well together, perhaps because they're the two biggest wise-asses on the show. Gregorio's disdain for Patton's fugly surveillance van was obvious.
Patton: If you brought an FBI surveillance van to this part of town, you'd stand out like a sore thumb.
Gregorio: And the A-Team's was the only alternative? I'm sorry.
Patton: Crafty pop-culture reference, Mrs. T.
Still, when racing to protect Percy, Patton readily acceded to Gregorio's suggestion that he hack the ATF server to find out more about Ramon.
So the mission to humanize Gregorio continues. To recap, she's scarred by her past, so she keeps up her all-business armor to protect herself from getting hurt. She's not staying, so she doesn't get too attached (which certainly gives the producers an easy out). She's got a caustic wit but apparently no smile. In short, still plenty of room to develop.
The actual case of the week was a throwaway. Stop me if you've heard this before: A third party is setting two rival organizations against each other to further its own ends. In this case, fill in the blanks with "mob outfit" and "motorcycle gangs." And of course Percy's crush was at the heart of this conspiracy.
The episode once again highlighted Pride's compassion for veterans in need, a sterling part of his character. As Percy joked, he would hire them all if he could.
One storyline that has seemingly floated away is the FBI's pursuit of the Cuidad Natal drug cartel, Gregorio's only reason for being back in New Orleans. Maybe it's not meant to be a storyline after all, but just a way to introduce the new female character. That would mean the only continuing storyline now is LaSalle as baby daddy, which doesn't offer nearly the dramatic potential.
