The Goldbergs Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Shall We Play a Game?

at .  Updated at .

You know what is great about The Goldbergs? They write stories that their audience can relate to.

On The Goldbergs Season 2 Episode 4, we get a drunk Beverly who is trying to be cool and Barry lets go of a falcon. I could, in all honesty, just write that one sentence and it would sum up the entire episode.

It was extremely comical to see Beverly try to get into Erica's group of friends by dressing up as Madonna and dancing. If this was any other show, I would be rolling my eyes and turning the channel -- but the writers know what they are doing and it makes perfect sense for Beverly to be acting this way.

Yep! We finally got a drunk Bev! In her attempt to be cool she goes straight to her dad for advice; unfortunately you cannot learn to be cool, you are born with it. Bev being Bev, she decides to drink with her dad to prove her "coolness." We apparently learned that drunk Bev is no different than sober Bev -- she tells her family that she loves them over and over again. SHOCKER!

Is it bad that I actually knew people that would be doing the mundane things that Barry and his friends were doing? No worries, I no longer associate with these people -- except on Facebook.

While Beverly was getting drunk, we got to meet Barry's group of friends. I do not know if I should cringe, laugh or cry at the ridiculous things these guys were doing. Thank you Adam for being smarter than your brother -- even though you did get him kicked out of the group. Nice shout-out to the movie War Games; always enjoy those 80's references.

I am happy with the way they tied up the stories. Having Erica figure out that her mom may not be cool but that Bev actually cares and loves them was a nice touch. Then having Barry as "the man" by stealing the rival school's falcon was genius. Even though the group of friends are idiots, they are Barry's idiots and he is their king!

It was another solid episode of The Goldbergs. This is turning out to be another terrific season and I see why more and more people are falling in love with this show.

What did you think of tonight's episode? Do you hope we get more of drunk Bev? What do you think of Barry's group of friends?
