Roseanne Showrunner Breaks Silence On Show's Cancellation

Roseanne has been canceled by ABC just two months after the series returned to the air after a 20-year hiatus.

Series showrunner Bruce Helford has released a statement about the cancellation through his agency, and he is very upset at Barr's comments.

“On behalf of all the writers and producers, we worked incredibly hard to create an amazing show.

"I was personally horrified and saddened by the comments and in no way do they reflect the values of the people who worked so hard to make this the iconic show that it is,” Helford said through his agent Jay Sures, Co-President of United Talent Agency.

Barr shocked the world with a string of tweets early Tuesday morning that were mean-spirited and racist. The actress took aim at Valerie Jarrett.

“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” Barr shared with her followers on Twitter.

“ISLAM is not a RACE, lefties. Islam includes EVERY RACE of people.”

But she quickly backtracked upon realizing the severity of her comments.

"I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans," she began in her apology.

"I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste."

That was not enough to stop what came after it. Consulting Producer Wanda Sykes confirmed she would not return for Roseanne Season 11, but that was when Season 11 was still a thing.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said ABC president, Channing Dungey in a stunning statement on Tuesday, confirming the end of the show.

Shortly after, series star Emma Kenney confirmed that if the show was still going ahead, she would no longer be part of it.
