Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 Episode 8 Review: ...And Finally: Black Bolt

at .  Updated at .

It all came to an end in the season finale of Marvel's Inhumans as Black Bolt and his family took on Maximus in an unexpected way.

The theme of Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 Episode 8 was all about family and whether you give up on a lost member or not.

Lasting Consequences - Marvel's Inhumans

But did the finale live up to its hype in the end? Yes...and no. One of the things I had issues with on Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 is the lack of spectacle.

The action sequences have mostly been mediocre given that this is a show about super-powered people. Several storylines were either dull or intriguing but never got enough focus.

If not one of those two aspects, the stories have felt rushed given that they only had eight episodes to work with. Nonetheless, the finale worked in several ways while it didn't.

The idea that Attilan was about to lose its protection was something that I didn't imagine would happen. At least not on a show that is in its first season, but then again, ABC may be done with Marvel's Inhumans after this.

In the comics, there was a point where the famous home of the Royal Family got destroyed. The problem here was that I couldn't tell if Attilan was getting destroyed or merely losing its protective barrier.

When you see buildings collapse and whatnot, you would assume that a city is in danger. But the finale never makes it clear, so let's assume that they were only losing their protection.

The Gorgon situation didn't get a solid solution at all. He doesn't seem to be entirely in zombie-form as we thought initially. When he asked Karnak for help, I felt as if he was asking him to end his pain.

That makes his resurrection even more devastating. Even though I didn't enjoy his death, I'd have preferred if he had stayed dead for two reasons. One being that Marvel's Inhumans would have some stakes in doing so.

The other reason being that it wouldn't put Gorgon in such a painful position. But at least he is with his family, so I guess that's a good thing...even if we might never get a second season.

When we kept being teased that Black Bolt and Maximus would have a showdown, I was expecting it to be more action-packed.  But the showdown ended up being more emotionally charged than physically.

Maximus ended up revealing one good deed that he had done in his life. I will admit the waterworks were going in my eyes when he admitted that he made an effort to learn Black Bolt's sign language.

But then again, there was that whole thing he did as a kid to Black Bolt. Can we discuss Maximus' definition of "forging a signature"?

All he did to sign it was using the royal symbol...is that a signature in Attilan-language? I'm sorry, but that is kind of ridiculous to hear. How the heck would a "signature" like that prove that said person did sign it?

I guess I will have to suspend my disbelief on this one even if it's laughable. But as I mentioned before, the showdown ended up being an emotional one rather than action-packed which I guess is OK.

It was genuinely tragic to see how the brotherhood between the two men got killed. It was a surprise, though, that Black Bolt left Maximus in that bunker before leaving the moon.

I don't know what the takeaway was supposed to be from the throne beginning to glow blue. Maybe it was the moonlight that triggered it? If we never get a Season 2 than I guess we will never get answers to that cliffhanger.

So Black Bolt and the Royal Family are now residents of Earth along with the rest of the people of Attilan. I suppose that if the show doesn't come back, it's something that Agents of SHIELD could continue at some point.

Overall, "...And finally: Black Bolt" was a decent season finale for Marvel's Inhumans. It was one of the stronger episodes, but not by a lot. While there were substantial conclusions and teases for things that could happen, will a second season ever occur?

Should Marvel's Inhumans return, the creative team would need to figure out ways to improve on the flaws in the first season. But overall, the finale was decent.

Now it's your turn to let us know what you thought of Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 Episode 8! What did you think of the Royal Family making a move to Earth?

What is going on with the glowing throne? Do you want a second season?
