On Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 3 The Doctor goes dark as he battles forces in a western town and becomes Sheriff when another Doctor is no longer able.

The Doctor becomes increasingly disillusioned with his past choices and their consequences and is no longer able to hide his anger at having taken so many lives in the name of doing the right thing. He questions his every move, and meeting two forces in the western town, one good and one evil, give him insight into his own purpose.

Amy is facing considerable challenges of her own, as she continues to struggle with her desires to have a normal life with the man she loves, but still greatly wants to aid her very best friend, The Doctor. She cannot imagine a life without The Doctor, but cannot imagine ever having a full life if she continues to go on adventures with The Doctor.
