“Do you judge a man by what he’s done or what he wants to do?”

I am pretty sure I have just found my new guilty pleasure. Coming into this fall season, I was looking for a new drama, one with some substance, and one to fill the void Lost left inside me. If the premiere of Lonestar is any indication, it looks like I may have found my show.

Although some may be hesitant that this is another show dealing with Texas and oil, I have a feeling we're going to get a lot more than that. For one, the characters are defined and played by a cast that shows great promise.

Even though Bob Allen is a con man stealing millions of dollars, you can’t help but like him. He makes you understand why he is doing cons and why he can’t just walk away. You could even see the sense of guilt he experienced throughout different parts of the hour.

He felt bad for the cashier at the gas station; he got nervous when speaking with Lindsey’s parents; and he was panicked after almost getting caught in a lie with Cat’s family. He wants to do the right thing and get away from the con business, he just can’t or doesn’t know how to get away from his father.

Is it just me or does James Wolk remind you of a young Kyle Chandler? They definitely have the same charisma.

Even after all of the movies Jon Voight has done, he still carries a presence that lets you know he is a leading man. I think that he is perfect for the role of Clint Thatcher and I can’t wait to see where he takes the character.

The brothers seem to have an interesting relationship. It is clear that Trammell is the leader and Drew the follower. It will be exciting to see what goes down between the two, considering that Drew seems to really like Bob.

I can’t even tell you how excited I am to see Adrianne Palicki in another television role. I was a huge fan of hers when she was on Friday Night Lights and I instantly liked her more than Bob’s girlfriend Lindsey. The character of Cat surprised me. Seeing that she is the only daughter of an oil tycoon who has plenty of money, I expected her to be prissy and snobbish. Instead, Cat felt relatable and I look forward to seeing the relationship between her, her family, and Bob.

I have been reading everywhere that Lone Star is the show to watch this fall. After seeing the pilot episode, I must say I agree. Just one hour of the show has me looking forward to the next episode. How about you?
