Chicago Med Season 5 Episode 17 revolves around uncomfortable truths.

When April begins having abdominal pain and nausea, she braves it out as best as she can but eventually collapses. Will insists Dr. Asher be the one to provide care for her, as it appears something is going on with her ovaries.

Ethan comes running to be by her side, only for Asher to throw him out of the room. Asher gives April an injection and resolves the problem. Ethan visits and April tells him she doubled her dose of hormones because he wants a baby so bad and she wants to make up for kissing Marcel.

Ethan promptly shoves Marcel in front of everyone, but a patient's needs break up the fight.

The patient is John Bell, a cop who has been shot. During the surgery after his shooting, Marcel and Ethan discover he has been shot in the past, which Bell denies. After Marcel and Ethan's fight, however, Bell admits to an unsavory past and chooses to tell his commanding officer himself.

Meanwhile, Dr. Charles' teenage daughter has been suspended for vaping and is generally being rebellious. Charles takes her to his office but is called out on a case, which she resents. However, she walks in on a mother begging Charles not to take her daughter away, which upsets her.

The woman is suspected of making her four-year-old sick on purpose, and Charles tries to explain that to his daughter, who worries that she will be taken away too because Charles is a neglectful father.
