Game of Thrones Season 7 has a premiere date!

The highly anticipated new season of the HBO fantasy epic will debut on July 16, 2017.

Jon Snow in Battle - Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 9

The news was confirmed via a live Facebook video, which found the date submerged in ice.

Facebook users were given a task by Isaac Hempstead Wright to comment with the word, "Fire" to take the wall of ice down to reveal the premiere date.

Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie and Alfie Allen later appeared in the video promoting the benefits of melting the ice.

It was a good way to reveal the news, but it was filled with technical issues. HBO should maybe just stick to the good old press release next time.

Fans have questioned when the truncated run of episodes would premiere ever since we got word that the series would be delayed.

This delay was down to weather preventing the filming of key scenes.

When HBO announced that The Leftovers would be premiering in the Game of Thrones slot on April 16, fans were quick to question whether that meant the penultimate season of the series would premiere in June.

Earlier reports suggested the series had been pushed to Summer 2017, but without a confirmed premiere date, fans had been clamoring for more news.

HBO revealed the official poster (below) earlier this week, and it certainly got fans talking about when a premiere date would be revealed.

The fire and ice colliding is probably alluding to the highly anticipated meeting between John Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Hey, it's been seven years in the making.

It's kind of a big deal, you guys.

When we last left off on Game of Thrones Season 6, Cersei blew up the Great Sept of Baelor, with everyone inside.

The final scene found Daenerys heading to Westeros.

This was a huge turning point for the series and one that fans had been waiting a long time for. Now, the stage is set for two killer seasons to wrap the series up.

However, these seasons have been confirmed to span shorter than ten episodes.

HBO is interesting in developing a spin-off of the series to extend the brand, but there has been no confirmation of what that spin-off would look like.

What do you think of the premiere date?

Game of Thrones Quotes

Tis a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don't want to be most of us.

You've just won the biggest prize in the world. What could you possibly have to be upset about? Come on, you can tell me. Queen of thorns give you one last prick in the balls before saying goodbye?
