Downton Abbey Season 4 Scoop: Who is Lord Anthony Gillingham?
MAJOR DOWNTON ABBEY SPOILER ALERT: Stop reading right now if you wish to remain in the dark about a significant Season 4 plot twist...
As previously reported, Dan Stevens has left the British sensation, bowing out after the Christmas special that recently aired in England and which left viewers stunned over the death of Matthew Crawley.
But Mary will only be mourning the loss of her husband for so long, TV Line reports, as the series is seeking a good-looking thirty-something actor to come on board as Lord Anthony Gillingham, a character who will debut on Downton Abbey Season 4 and court the new mother.
Moreover, producers are already considering Gillingham to play a role on Season 5. Sounds like things will be getting serious!
The description is rather vague, of course, but got any casting suggestions for Mary's new love interest? Submit them now!

Rupert Penry-Jones! He's definitely a television actor and passes easily for mid-30s, looks great in period costume and is not currently involved with anything in particular. He'd be perfect or if they could pick up Nikolaj Coster-Waldau between seasons of Game of Thrones they would have a great rogue to go up against Lady Mary. Colin Firth is old as dirt now and above doing telly, as is Hugh Grant. Daniel Craig, Ed Norton, Jude Law, and Robert Downey are way too A-list to do telly and would be way to expensive. Mathew Macfadyen is tied up with the new Ripper Street series and Damian Lewis is still committed to Homeland. Eammon Eliott, Bradley James, Jonas Armstrong and Andrew Buchan are all good candidates. For a bit of the rogue, it would be easy to go a bit older with Dougray Scott or Rupert Graves.

I'm wondering if Dan Stevens might reconsider and return to DA.
Yup, he looks dead in that scene, but he's pulled off miraculous recoveries before.
Now that he's had a few months to explore "other opportunities," he might realize what a great deal DA was/is.
