There have been some rumblings that a major character will die as a result of a final battle with Cade.

However, we don't know who it will be right now.

The CW dropped a new teaser which finds Elena meeting Stefan when she awakens from her sleeping curse.

Could this mean Bonnie Bennett gets murdered? It would not be out of the realm of possibility.

That character has had so many bad things happen to her over the years, so killing her would be unsurprising.

In the teaser, Elena is shocked to be meeting with Stefan because she knew the only chance of her waking back up was when Bonnie died which should have been several years later.

Either way, we're going to have to tune into the series finale on March 10 to find out how it all plays out.

Also, there will be a retrospective featuring interviews with the cast and crew airing right before the finale.

If you're feeling nostalgic and want to relive any of the best moments from the series, you can watch The Vampire Diaries online right here via TV Fanatic.

The series continues on Friday with The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 14, which will find Stefan and Damon launching an attack on Cade.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

Dear Diary, a chipmunk asked me my name today. I told him it was Joe. That lie, will haunt me, forever.

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
