Money isn't everything.
Magnum might have gotten paid plenty to solve a murder on Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 14, but he decided to give the money away instead of paying off his debts.
Does that make him a mooch?
He owed Higgins for Ferrari repairs and owed TC some money too but thought they'd understand when he donated the money to a charity.
The smart thing would have been to have paid off his debts and given whatever was left away, but Magnum didn't see it that way.
He's going to run out of favors one day if he keeps it up.
And it's not just money that's bringing everyone down, but his refusal to not follow the rules with Katsumoto because he's about had enough of Magnum's games, too.
But despite Magnum's devil may care attitude, his friends continue to help him anytime he asks.
Katsumoto also keeps giving Magnum breaks.
What blows my mind is that as much as Katsumoto claims Magnum is on his last leg with him, he decides hanging out with Magnum after hours is an okay thing to do.
I like that Katsumoto is part of the team, but how can he expect Magnum to take him seriously when he knows the cop will hang out with him afterward to play games and drink beer?
How many times have we heard Katsumoto tell Magnum this is his last chance?
And yet, Katsumoto keeps giving Magnum chances. I would be taking everything coming out of Katsumoto's mouth with a grain of salt, too.
You'd think that considering all the leeway Katsumoto gives Magnum that he'd fill the detective in from the beginning. It would certainly make his life easier.
I didn't really understand Larry's reasoning for hiring Magnum in the first place. Maybe I missed it.
I get that Larry saw Magnum as a hero who always seems to do the right thing, but if the guy thought his life was in danger, why didn't he seek him out earlier.
And why send a massive amount of cash to someone he didn't even know could figure out the mystery?
Obviously, Magnum was the right person for the job because he didn't just take the money and run.
He got to the bottom of the case and solved Larry's murder as well as gave closure to the families to the families of two other murder victims in the process.
Still, it's a blind faith I can't buy into.
Larry wasn't a veteran, so he had no connection there. It's just like he closed his eyes and randomly picked someone out of the phone book and then did some basic checking to see who was the best fit.
But for a guy who was supposed to be so paranoid, how did he have the wherewithal to even get that far in the process?
I love that Higgins is always ready to jump into any and all of Magnum's adventures, but didn't she have anything better to do this time around?
I would rather have seen her giving Kumu romantic advice than following Magnum around chasing bad guys.
It was strange that Kumu confided in Rick about her romantic woes.
Sure, Dennis was a friend of Rick's, and Rick was organizing the termite cleanup, but I never got the feeling that Kumu and Rick were close enough to talk about romantic stuff.
And the fact that she jumped on Rick's advice to take the plunge and go out with Dennis was odd, too.
That's a conversation she should have had with Higgins, and it would have been tons more fun to see what Higgins had to say about it all.
They could have giggled like schoolgirls and Higgins could have helped Kumu with what she was going to say to Dennis and what she was going to wear.
While I understand that the whole team is like one big family, Kumu sharing what happened with Dennis didn't make any sense either.
I guess maybe I'm not the type of person to share all my tragedies with the world which might be why I'm having a hard time with it.
I felt bad for Kumu that it didn't work out for Dennis, but why did Magnum P.I. even go there just for Dennis to be a lying jackass?
Give Kumu a storyline worth something instead of a half-ass one that didn't make any sense.
And build that relationship between Kumu and Higgins. The only two women on the show should have a stronger bond.
Over to you!
Is Magnum a mooch? Is Katsumoto a pushover?
Do you want to see a stronger bond between Higgins and Kumu?
