Throwback Thursday: 9 Classic Sitcoms from TGIF

We're back for Throwback Thursday!

Before there was TGIT on Thursday nights, ABC launched TGIF on Friday nights, but it wasn't anything close to the dramatic shows we've come to know and love from Shondaland.

Instead, TGIF was a night filled with hilarious sitcoms centered around family that have since become iconic. The original run began in the late 1980s through the year 2000, seeing some major changes along the way.

Feeling a bit nostalgic? Here are 9 of our favorite sitcoms from TGIF!

1. Perfect Strangers

Who didn't love Larry and Ballki, the two distant cousins from very different backgrounds? In this clip of Perfect Strangers, Balki insists on a game of "Boochi Tag," a game from his home country that he thinks is lots of fun. The best part might be how much he cracks himself up by tricking Larry into playing. Perfect Strangers was part of the original TGIF run.

2. Full House

This one really needs no introuction. Full House was also part of the original TGIF run, and its become an icon of 90s television. Phrases like "How Rude" and "You Got It, Dude," received whole new meanings. Full House ran for 8 seasons, but it will be back as a reboot focusing on DJ Tanner next year. Hooray! In this clip, we get a look at the very beginning of the series, when Jesse and Joey first move in to help Danny with the girls.

3. Just the Ten of Us

Just the Ten of Us was also part of the original run. The comedy was a spin-off of Growing Pains, starring Bill Kirchenbauer as Coach Graham T. Lubbock. We've got a clip of the theme song, which makes us feel pretty inspired.

4. Family Matters

"Did I do that?!" Family Matters was actually a spin-off of another TGIF comedy we've aleady mentioned, Perfect Strangers. The show focuses on the Winslow family, and also includes their nerdy (and clumsy) next door neighbor, Steve Urkel. Here's a clip of young Steve Urkel at his very best, getting down with his bad self.

5. Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs is admittedly a little creepy. The comedy focuses on the Sinclair family, who are all, well, dinosaurs. This clip shows Baby Sinclair repeatedly using the catch phrase we remember most, "Not the Mama!"

6. Step by Step

Step by Step stars Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers as two single parents who get married, each bringing three kids with them into the family. The family also includes a nephew, Cody, who may just be the most memorable character. To see what I mean, check out this clip of the first time we meet him.

7. Hangin' with Mr. Cooper

Who was cooler than Mr. Cooper? The former NBA star turned teacher and gym coach always found a way to make us laugh. Here are a few highlights that remind us of just a few reasons Hangin' with Mr. Cooper was a hit.

8. Boy Meets World

Here's another classic that has already gotten the reboot. Remember when Cory and Shawn were a couple of young guys, often getting in trouble with Mr. Feeny? In this clip, Cory decides he wants a girlfriend, and he has his eye on a young Topanga.

9. The Hughleys

The Hughleys aired at the end of TGIF's original run. It starred D.L. Hughley, who was also one of the show's creators. In this clip, the daughter, Sydney, wins a date with Lil Romeo, who is only eleven at the time.
