17 Dope Shows Celebrating Legalized Weed

Elijah Wood is Ryan, a medical marijuana user with a seriously warped sense of reality. How warped? He thinks the neighbor’s dog is really a man dressed in a dog suit.

Wilfred the dog (Jason Gann) talks to Ryan ‘Mr. Ed’ style, "Why don't we smoke weed here, then go home and smoke more weed?"

Behold the change in broadcast television over the course of a half-century. In 1963, Mr. Ed the horse ate hay, and 50 years later, Wilfred the dog smokes it -- a major difference between television then and now.

Kathy Bates is ’60s earth mother, Ruth Whitefeather, a woman in her golden years who opens a dispensary and employs a team of "budtenders" to run it. Based on its story conceit alone, Disjointed should be at the forefront of the weed-infused television revolution.

The legendary Chuck Lorre (Big Bang Theory) runs wild with his chance to create content far away from network rules and regulations, resulting in a bizzarely botched attempt to keep pace with the times -- given Ruth's staff of stoner stereotypes constantly blazing up to the tune of a laugh track. (Wah wah.)

Netflix gets an A for effort for branding strains of Disjointed cannabis, selling it in a California dispensary, and encouraging viewers to smoke up while watching.Though this show doesn't do it for me, it's on the list in case it IS up your alley. Just consider yourselves warned and proceed with caution, NOT without weed.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is Spencer Strasmore, a retired pro football player who reinvents himself as the financial manager of other NFL players. In season 3, Ballers stays relevant by touring a grow house, as football star, Vernon Littlefield partners with a cannabis company to promote their weed-themed clothing line.

The series scores points for having the balls to suggest athletes consider a greener, more natural approach to pain relief. And the medical marijuana—infused laughs? Well, they don’t hurt a bit.

With the changing cannabis culture, edibles are becoming more common, setting the perfect table for weed-infused dinner parties.

Hosted by world-renowned marijuana enthusiast, Abdullah Saeed, notable chefs from Cat Cora to Marcel Vigneron create pot-infused menus -- like 420 Puff Puff Pizza Party, Stoned Shabbat Dinner, and Marijuana Mothers Day. What goes into their elaborate meals? Equal parts imagination and “a shit ton” of weed.

Three unmotivated friends -- Anders Holm, Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson -- work together as telemarketers, constantly blazing up at the office and EVERYWHERE else.

File this series under total guy humor, as these three rather dirty dudes get off on uber-male activities -- like lighting a racoon on fire at a gas station --while never straying from their number one priority -- getting high.

The trio kicks off season 3 by tripping on acid on a business trip, but the series peaks in Season 4, when the guys open a burrito-weed stand that sells "Burweedos." Burweedos. Ha.

Jason Schwarzman is Jonathan, a struggling writer leading a double life by pretending to be a private detective.

When he and his pot-loving friends, Ray (Zach Galifianakis) and George (Ted Danson) find themselves in over their heads, they embrace marijuana as a lifestyle without negative consequences and an even better chance to succeed.

Superstar guests include genius comedians like Patton Oswalt, Olympia Dukakis, and Kevin Bacon. Plus my all-time fave, Kristin Wiig appears in the first few seasons as Jonathan's client, Jennifer "Trouble" Gladwell, whose boyfriends keep dumping her for being a (very, very bad) barfly.

David Duchovny is Hank Moody, a writer and father who juggles his career, baby mama, and daughter with an insatiable appetite for beautiful women ... All while seeing himself as a true enthusiast – an alcohol and drug and enthusiast.

Through the course of its 7 seasons, cast members take turns toking up at bat, with Marcy (Pamela Adlon) wishing she could partake while pregnant. “The baby's not gonna go full retard if I get just the tiniest bit whacked, right?”

Hank’s daughter, Becca (Madeline Martin) admits it scares her that she likes being fucked up later in life more than ever, as she wonders, “Is that a family thing?”

In season 7, Hank finds out he has a son from one of his many former flings, Julia, now a wanna be actress with whom Hank reunites and, not surprisingly, beds again -- played hilariously by Heather Graham.

Mary-Louise Parker is Nancy Botwin, widowed single mom selling weed to support her family. Nancy’s stoner friends and family help her out by buying her bud while keeping her business venture a secret.

Kevin Nealon is particularly hilarious as Nancy’s weed obsessed accountant, Doug, who poses burning questions like, “How do you ask your wife, the woman who makes your kids' lunches, to suck your balls and spread her ass open like a geometry compass?”

There are also plenty of epic cameos, including Snoop Dog, who loves Nancy's MILF weed, Allison Janney as Nancy’s blissed-out lawyer, and Mary Kate Olsen as a holy roller who can’t choose between God and getting high.

Set in Berkeley, California, The Braverman family is always good for a pot sub-plot. Daughter, Amber (Mae Whitman) loves her weed from the start, and after confiscating her stash in seasion 1, her parents smoke it up with the other Braverman adults.

In season 2, Adam (Peter Krause) accidentally eats a marijuana-laced lollipop and hilarity ensues. But he's our hero once the series bravely dives into progressive TV territory, when Kristina (Monica Potter) is diagnosed and later survives cancer --with the help of her loving husband and medical marijuana.

This early Judd Apatow dramedy launched the careers of then freaks, now superstar stoners, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and James Franco. Set in the '80s and broadcast just before the new millennnium, the series features two groups of teenagers — the cool freaks and the smart geeks, both coming of age at McKinley High.

Taken off the air after only one season, most everything Apatow’s done since has been revenge for the people who cancelled Freaks and Geeks. Thus, the under appreciated TV series manifested itself in The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Knocked Up, and Pineapple Express -- proving revenge is a dish best served (stoned) cold.

Before they were stars in Hollywood, Topher Grace, Mila Kunitz, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson, Ashton Kutcher and Wilmer Valderama were teenagers in 1970’s Wisconsin.

Best known for its smoke sessions in Eric Forman’s basement, the series was filmed before it was acceptable to show drug use. Thus, the downstairs scenes pan around the smoke-filled room to follow the conversation from one stoned teenager to the next.

In Season 2, marijuana-comedy icon, Tommy Chong, joins the cast as Leo, Hyde’s (Danny Masterson) aging hippie boss.

A group of old, tight friends viciously and hilariously compete in a fantasy football league. One pal in particular, “Taco,” (Jonathan Lajole), stands out as the Peter Pan of the crew. While the rest of the gang has grown up to raise families, Taco’s happy just being his stoner self.

The comedy reaches a crescendo when Taco’s habit spills over into the lives of his more mature friends. Like when lone-female leaguer and mom, Jenny accidentally laces her child's school snacks with Taco’s stash -- getting her daughter, Ellie, and the rest of her grade school class totally LIT.

Jon Hamm is Don Draper, advertising exec, family man, and an all around damaged dude running an agency where 99% of the women are secretaries, and the in-office drinking happens round-the-clock. But it's the 60's and that means drugs, too! Everything from marijuana and speed to hash and LSD.

The boys smoke plenty of dope in the office and after Peggy (Elizabeth Moss) tries it once, she accepts another joint from a stranger in a movie theater, then thanks him with a handjob!

Meanwhile, Don and Roger (John Slattery) travel coast to coast, taking wild LSD trips. In season 5, Don gets CRAZY high on hash at a party in L.A., halucinates, and nearly drowns in a pool, until Roger jumps in to save his best friend and partner, Don -- no doubt, the Maddest of Men.

Film star Vinnny Chase navigates The City of Angels with his trusty agent and tight group of friends. But it’s his pal, Turtle, whose unofficial duty is keeping the boys in bud. Sure, toward the end of the series, Turtle burns Vince's house down by flicking a lit joint out his window, but Vince declares it an opportunity for a new beginning.

Think of Entourage as Sex in The City for men, but instead of cosmopolitans in New York, it's beer and weed in Los Angeles. The cast blazes up on the regular with star power, smoking kush with their sherpa, played by Val Kilmer and ripping bong hits with Bob Saget, while Vince does all that and more with porn star, Sasha Grey.

When his father, George Bluth Senior is imprisoned, level-headed son Michael Bluth takes over family affairs. But his dysfunctional boozehound relatives make his job hilariously difficult. Jeffery Tambor plays both George Sr. and his identical twin brother, Oscar Bluth -- the latter, one of most entertaining TV stoners of all time.

Oscar is distinguished from his balding brother, George by his healthy head of hair –- a result of a complete lack of stress living on handouts from women who find his lion mane irresistible. Women including George Senior's wife, Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter), who can't keep her hands off Oscar's luciously long locks.

Ben Sinclair is “The Guy,” a weed delivery dude whose client base includes a group of characters as wild and crazy as New York itself.

This awesome, laid back view of urban drug culture follows The Guy on his delivery route, into the homes of some clients you’d expect -- like stoners, partiers, and edible eaters, and others who'll surprise you –- like those who use weed to manage pain and xanax withdrawal.

His BEST deliveries are those The Guy makes to repeat customers like, “Homeless Heidi,” who goes from one dude to another without any of them realizing they're being used for their pads. HIGH-larious!

If you’re one of the few people who's yet to partake in the (not quite nationwide, but certainly widespread) legalized cannabis revolution, High Maintenance may leave you wondering if you’re all alone.

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are uninhibited besties who love three things: each other, New York, and getting high. Girl power personified, the series is equal parts original, hilarious, and educational. (How else would you know how to smuggle an eighth in your undies, blend a dope pot smoothie, and craft the perfect mushroom trip timeline?)

If the girl's friendship is the focus of the series, then herbal refreshments are their co-stars. And like any respectable supporting cast, WEED helps Abbi and Ilana shine a bit brighter and laugh a lot harder -- while turning their ho-hum city outings into truly epic adventures.
