11 Best Besties on TV

at .  Updated at .

Every great character needs to have a confidant; a best friend who is there to support their every decision, whether good or bad, and to be their sounding board for everything and anything.

From the bad-ass to the bromance, this Throwback Thursday we're looking at some of the besties that you wished you'd had.

Check them out!

1. Sookie St. James, Gilmore Girls

Always there for Lorelai with a shoulder to cry on and something to eat, Sookie was the stability in Lorelai's world. She helped Lorelai make some of her biggest life-altering decisions while providing many laughs along the way. Sookie would give you great advice about marriage, motherhood, cooking, and how to get rid of several garbage bags full of pot.

2. Christopher Turk, Scrubs

Roommates, co-workers, and so much more, JD and Turk were silly, goofy, and inseparable. The staff and patients at Sacred Heart often referred to them as a couple. Their friendship is unrivaled...it's true guy love between two guys. We'd want Turk around for the laughs alone, but his loyalty and sensitive side make him the perfect combo for a bromance.

3. Kimmy Gibbler, Full House

Every 90's sitcom needed a wacky neighbor, and every responsible teenage girl on TV needed a less responsible best friend, a yang to their yin. Kimmy Gibbler was both. If Kimmy was our BFF now, we'd surely have a closet full of brightly colored clothes... she'd never have given up her signature styles, even as they became fashion don'ts.

4. Francie Calfo, Alias

While her best friend Sydney Bristow was off working covert missions for the CIA, an unsuspecting Francie was home, supporting her BFF every step of the way. Francie gave Sydney a completely normal friendship, something Sydney needed in her dangerous and hectic secret life. And honestly, who wouldn't want a bestie who could cook? Delicious dinners all the time!

5. Jack McPhee, Dawson's Creek

Jen never had a lot of female friends, and was always a bit of an outcast. Jack, a newly out-of-the-closet outcast himself, became her rock for support, laughs, advice, and eventually, in the ultimate show of friendship, the man who raised her daughter. Bonus: he wrote poetry, and could easily talk sports, two perfect ingredients in a bestie.

6. Landry Clarke, Friday Night Lights

When Matt rocketed to the top as the quarterback of the Dillon Panthers, he thankfully had Landry to keep him centered. Landry was always there for Matt, helping him care for his grandmother, and offering him unhelpful advice with a sense of humor. And let's face it... everyone wanted a friend who was in a band, even if that band wasn't very good.

7. Shawn Hunter, Boy Meets World

Shawn and Cory were lifelong best friends, helping each other navigate the those awkward teenage years. Shawn, more popular than Cory, often helped up his "cool factor" and kept Cory on the path that led to love with Topanga, a romance he was the biggest supporter of. Shawn was the best kind of best friend; the one who really and truly knows you better than you know yourself.

8. Lavon Hayes, Hart of Dixie

Lavon was everyone's best friend in Bluebell. He played video games with and handed out love advice to Wade. He was a constant confidant for Lemon. George and Lavon shared a bromance over their love for golf legend Don Todd. And of course, Zoe couldn't have survived moving to Bluebell without Lavon to guide her through living life the Alabama way. His NFL connections could probably get you pretty sweet seats at the big games too!

9. Ann Perkins, Parks and Recreation

Leslie Knope had high energy and even higher aspirations. Fortunately for her, Ann Perkins was there to slow her down, keep things in perspective, and stop her from drinking 8 glasses of milk in 60 seconds. Ann would be the ideal bestie because she's patient and a great listener... she'd have to be to keep a friendship with Leslie going strong. Ann, you beautiful sunfish...

10. Willow Rosenberg, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

When your best friend is The Chosen One, it's hard to step out of their shadow. Luckily for Buffy, her best friend WIllow was a bad-ass witch, with magic that was even stronger than Buffy's ability to stop the forces of darkness. Buffy often relied on WIllow to help defeat the Big Bad, and also for Willow to be her emotional sponsor when things got too heavy, and she just needed a girlfriend. And a gal-pal with the ability to make fireworks, hack into a computer system, and float pencils around is just too fabulous to ever pass up!

11. Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes, and Samantha Jones, Sex in the City

Carrie was lucky. She had not one, but three best friends to go through life with. The foursome showed ladies around the world that sometimes it's not men who are the loves of your life, but your best friends. They became a template for female friendship, something to aspire to, and helped shape the way females viewed each other not just on television, but in real life. Best of all, with best friends like these ladies, there's nothing that is too taboo to talk about. Sex? Mommy stuff? Divorce? Life threatening illness? A guy who dumped you via a post-it? Everything is always on the table, ready for an honest discussion.
