A natural gas pipleline constuction site accidently releases a magical shape-shifting creature from an underground prison. The Librarians investigate the site, and Jake is shocked to discover that the construction is being done by his father's company.

Their reunion is prickly at best, and it's clear that Isaac Stone is in the dark about his son's impressive intellectual and academic achievements.

After investigating the tunnels found by the construction crew, the team discovers the nature of the beast released, and they determine that it feeds on lies and chaos - first started when Isaac lied about having the necessary permits for the project.

The Librarians locate the prison from which the creature escaped, and quickly realize that the only way out is by speaking Truth. Not just true facts, but truths with emotional weight. Jake climbs out to find the shape-shifter. He meets his father and finally confesses his true genius, only to realize that he's talking to the shapeshifter.

Jake manages to overpower the shapeshifter after weakening it with a few choice truths about himself, and he takes it back to the prison, where the Librarians trap it once more. They then leave the site, and Jake tells his father that he no longer needs his father's approval anymore.

Jake later decides to start publishing papers in his own name for the first time.
