In the Enchanted Forest of the past, Robin and Marian are going to lose their tavern due to unpaid taxes until Rumpelstiltskin makes him a deal. Robin must go to Oz and steal the Elixir of the Wounded Heart from the Wicked Witch. He does but then Will Scarlett steals it from him. When Robin eventually loses the tavern, he decides to steal from the rich and give to the poor, becoming Robin Hood. Marian promises to be by his side. 

The author is on the run but Gold finds him first and offers him a magic quill if he promises to write him a whole bunch of new happy endings.

In NYC, nine weeks earlier, Robin and Marian run into Gold. Gold has a heart attack. His heart has been poisoned by all of his dark deeds. He needs the Elixir of the Wounded Heart to save himself. Selena moved it to this realm. Robin steals it for him in order to be get Baelfire’s apartment for his family. 

When Gold takes the Elixir, it doesn’t work. Turns out Marian switched the vials, but Marian is not Marian. Selena ended up in the Enchanted Forest when Emma and Hook went through the portal. When she realized that Emma was determined to bring Marian back to Storybrooke, she killed Marian and took her place. Doing so has allowed her to steal Regina’s true love and happy ending. 

Gold needs Regina’s help to turn Emma’s heart dark. When Regina refuses he lets her call Robin in NYC but she gets Selena on the phone. Selena tells her the truth. Gold tells Regina that if she doesn’t help him with the author and Emma, he will have Selena kill Robin.
