Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 16 tackles a murder involving a keyless entry system. The victim's wife explains that the family used an app on their phone to unlock their front door rather than using traditional keys. Very few people had access to the app, and two of them -- her ex-husband and teenage son -- were out of town on the Catalina Islands. Provenza finds this all too convenient and the woman agrees. She thinks her ex-husband committed the murder.

As the investigation proceeds, Amy gets some help from Mark Hickman, an ex-cop with a bad attitude that helped her in a previous case. Hickman's behavior almost costs them the case, however, when he tells Linda Rothman about a slightly underhanded tactic he and Amy used in the course of the investigation. Amy feels betrayed and tells Hickman never to contact her again, but when he turns up again she records his latest tip on her phone and it helps Major Crimes solve the case.

Meanwhile, Rusty is surprised by Judge Grove's reaction to his new career path, and Julio also gets a surprise when his foster son returns.
