Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 1 revolves around the story of a missing teenage girl, Amanda Pond. Amanda was a volunteer at a nonprofit, Care First, that offers help to homeless people. Her job was to hand out hygiene packets to homeless people -- something Flynn thinks is dangerous. Amanda was working with her boyfriend, Gabe, and two other guys, Tucker and Dave, shortly before her disappearance. Tucker filmed her and Gabe fighting because Gabe was going to go camping instead of being around for her 16th birthday.

Amanda's father is sure Gabe hurt her if anyone did. He stresses the fact that Gabe is 18 and possibly committed statutory rape. He didn't like that Amanda worked with the homeless. He thinks it was her way of getting back at her parents because they are part of the "1%" who is super-rich.

The investigation leads to the fact that Gabe is not at the campsite; he is partying in Mexico and his friends have his phone. Gabe is arrested and doesn't give the cops much. He also calls them dude which Sanchez doesn't like. He does say that Amanda let homeless people stay at another house owned by her parents.

The cops go to the house and there are two homeless guys living there. A third homeless guy runs away when he sees them and gets hit by a car. Amanda's body is found in the basement of the house along with a bunch of toys from about 20 years ago. They find a print belonging to an ex-con on a Game Boy found at the crime scene.

The ex-con, Ethan, took in foster kids for the money and did time for raping a foster daughter. He says the Game Boy belonged to one foster kid who said that it was a gift from his late father.

The cops show the Game Boy to the Ponds and they have a sad story to tell about how they had a foster kid they almost adopted but after four years of living with him Dr. Pond got pregnant so they cancelled the adoption process and sent the kid away. His name was Tucker -- and he is one of the guys who worked with Amanda at Care First.

Meanwhile, Rusty worries about his relationship after he has a bad reaction to Gus taking his hand in public, and Buzz wants to re-open an investigation into the murder of his father and uncle.
