On Madam Secretary Season 6 Episode 8, the impeachment hearings turn personal when Stevie testifies.

Elizabeth is worried about the effect having to testify will have on Stevie and wants to protect her, but Stevie wants to testify to straighten out public perception of Elizabeth. At first, she holds her own, but then Chairman Canning starts questioning her about Dmitri and claims both she and Elizabeth are liars.

An upset Stevie feels she let her parents down and also questions her relationship with Dmitri after learning about his past during the hearing. Meanwhile, Henry wants to testify to try to clarify things and Elizabeth demands a closed door meeting because of the sensitive nature of his work with Dmitri.

During the testimony, Canning claims that Henry is delusional to think that Elizabeth is a virtuous person or that he was hired by the previous administration for his merits.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth learns that Russia and Iran colluded to kidnap an American tech CEO, Volk, and that the Russian President received a lot of money for his part in this. She must proceed carefully because of how it will look in the press, and in addition, Iran threatens to start a war with Israel to try to get Elizabeth to back off.
