Madam Secretary Season 5 Episode 11 resolves the issue of Elizabeth being arrested for defying the Arizona Governor while her family prepared for her vow renewal.

Elizabeth meets a priest while being processed, while back home Russell worries that her arrest will tank her career. Henry and Russell disagree about whether Elizabeth should take the stand she's taking. Meanwhile, the courtroom bursts into applause at Elizabeth's arraignment, both when she enters and when she refuses to be released in order to make a statement about the family separation policy.

Dalton tries to talk to Governor Barker, who insists Elizabeth broke the law and that he's proud to have had her arrested. Dalton is irritated enough to want to send the National Guard, which his advisors veto. One of the other advisors comes up with a new idea: accuse Barker of kidnapping.

Elizabeth dislikes this idea and calls Jay, asking him to come up with something else. Jay, stoned after eating Wynn's treats, comes up with something else but isn't sure it's a good idea. He calls Kat and runs it by her. The next day, he and Wynn approach Morejon and convince him to sponsor the end of Family Separation in an unorthodox manner.

Meanwhile, Kat has a difficult conversation with her dad and the kids travel to Arizona to celebrate Henry and Elizabeth's vow renewal while she is in jail.

Madam Secretary Season 5 Episode 11 Quotes

I feel like the soul of our country is at stake.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth: Christ, I guess you're used to this sort of thing. Jesus, I didn't mean - And I just said Jesus.
Priest: My mother always said never call on him unless you need him, so I'd say it's appropriate.
