Law & Order: SVU Season 17 Episode 8 features a tough case in more ways than one. The detectives' mission begins with a call from some frantic parents who can't get in touch with their teenage daughter, Lily. The other detectives work hard on the case, but Mike Dodds keeps insisting the girl just ran away and doesn't understand why this is even an SVU case.

Sadly, Lily is found dead and Mike realizes how wrong he was. He is determined to find the killer now that he realizes something happened to this girl. This is easier said than done, however, as the only clue is a partial DNA match to some semen found on Lily's body. The DNA leads them to Brendan Cahill, who is a half brother of the killer. However, Brendan was adopted and never knew his birth parents.

It turns out that Brendan's father, Ray Marino, was quite a Don Juan and had children with four different women while staing married to his wife, who idealizes him five years after his death. She doesn't believe her husband cheated on her and wants to sue the NYPD but her adult son, George, admits that when he was 12 his father took him and his brother to meet a woman named Stella and her twins, who he is sure were his half-siblings. This lead goes nowhere, but the detectives find out about more illegitimate children.
