Recap

Meredith has to decide between working on Derek’s Alzheimer’s clinical trial, and starting a new diabetes clinical trial with the Chief based on research found in Meredith’s mom’s journals.  Meredith ultimately chooses to stay on the Alzheimer’s trial and tells the Chief to begin a diabetes trial with her blessing.

Mark and Arizona gang up and try to keep Callie healthy for her baby, but she eventually rebels against them.  Callie, Owen, and April work on a patient who tried to be a human slingshot.  Owen makes the patient feel ridiculous for intentionally injuring himself in an attempt at internet fame.

Thatcher Grey is admitted to the hospital.  Lexie finds out that he has a new, much younger girlfriend and gets upset.  After Meredith tells Lexie to let their dad be happy, Lexie realizes that she was wrong to be so hard on the new girlfriend.

Mark bribes Avery to get him to spy on Lexie.  Avery successfully gets Lexie to confide in him and finds out that she is actually upset about Mark and Callie’s pregnancy.  Avery withholds the information from Mark and informally asks Lexie out on a date.

Alex and Dr. Fields get off to a rocky start when he uses offensive language to describe a baby.  Dr. Fields makes Alex feel insensitive and gets him taken off a prized pediatric heart transplant case.  Later, Dr. Fields sees another side of Alex and watches him with the recovering patient in the NICU.  Alex asks Dr. Fields her out, and she says no.
