Greendale has disavowed acknowledgement of any particular seasonal holiday, which perplexed Abed and caused him to see everyone in stop-motion animated format, setting out on a journey to find the meaning of Christmas in an attempt to return things back to normal.

The study group was very concerned about Abed's delusional state and enlisted the help of Professor Duncan to provide a group therapy session with Abed.

The group was "transported" to Planet Abed where each member of the group, besides Abed, was transformed into a toy version of themselves.

Professor Duncan discovered Abed had received a card from his estranged mother who said she wouldn't be visiting because she has a new family now. 

Abed realized the true meaning of Christmas is not about holding on to the past, but embracing those you love in the present.
