Sheila Gormley visits Frank at to tell him Sid is heartbroken because he feels undervalued by Frank and that he has nowhere to go in NYPD. Frank has Sid do the TV briefing with the mayor’s office, much to Sid’s horror. Turns out all of this was his wife’s idea and not his Sid makes Sheila come back and admit as much to Frank. 

Goodnight Mason, aka Ernie, just spent 12 years in prison and when he gets out he comes to see Danny. He will pay Danny $10,000 to watch his back for two days.  Ernie goes to find his son who he hasn’t seen since he was 7 and he is now 19 years old. Ernie is furious when he finds out that his son is now a boxer like he was. When he goes to visit, his son won’t even talk to him. But later, Ernie goes to see his son fight. Afterwards his son agrees to share dinner with him. 

Turns out Ernie is owed $100K from Dewan Brown for doing his 12 years and keep his mouth shut about who really pulled the trigger.  Before he can collect, someone tries to kill him by shooting at him in his car on the street. Ernie asks Dewan for a sit down to make peace but has Danny plant a listening device on the table. Dewan admits to setting up the original murder but then has Ernie killed before he leaves the building.

Eddie and Jamie break up a fight between two other cops, Paul and Casey, who are partners at work and a couple outside of work. When they try to get them to deal with their issues, both of the cops accuse Jamie and Eddie of having a personal relationship as well and don’t believe it when they deny it. Eventually, Paul requests a transfer. Jamie tells Eddie that they are taking flack for something without enjoying the benefits but she tells him that once they sleep together, there’s no going back. 

It’s Frank’s birthday but he is averse to any type of celebration or acknowledgment. When he was 9-years-old, Henry bought tickets to a NY Ranger’s hockey game for him and all his friends for his birthday, but he gave the boys the wrong date. No one showed up for the game and it’s left Frank with a deep seeded aversion ever since. So for his birthday, Frank surprises the entire family with a Ranger game.
