    *Spoiler Warning* This is highly speculative but perhaps whatever is on Mer's neck is what causes her to go temporarily blind... It's usually the small innocuous looking things that cause the biggest problems on greys... It looks like Cristina just wipes it off for her a couple pics later so they could just forget about it until it comes back with a vengeance to teach Mer a valuable lesson about life in the ER...
