he didn't mean that. If he wanted her to die he would have done it himself. Stefan wasn't strong enough (back then) to stop him from killing anyone, besides Bonnie when she sealed the tomb.

i know he merely said it out of spite but i still don't think he would have sacrificed himself for her at that point.

being fun and selfish and egoistic is not comparable to rape and murder.like you said s1 elena had her flaws ,she could've gotten over the fact that he banged her mother and turned her but i still dont think she would've just forgiven him for raping and abusing her childhood friend and trying to eat her best friend even if it was in a fit of rage.
hence why he should have gotten consequences for those actions, learned his lesson and never repeated them. That's another reason why nigh perfect build up of DE in S1 got ruined by S2.

S2+ writing of Elena - yep. Agreed.
S1 Elena - nope nope. She was playing the morality queen so she could lessen the feeling of guilt over her fuck up that got her parents killed.
also at that point,even if damon had tried to move on, he wasn't completely over katherine either,case in point he would have taken back katherine in blink of an eye if she'd said the right thing.when you spend more than half your life obsessing over some1,i think it takes some time to get over them lol.
The tomb symbolized the turning point of his life - either he "perishes" and get stuck in the past or moves on to the future and into the light. If the writing was coherent and fluent, none of S2+ Damon hijinks about Katherine would have ever happened.
me neither.but like i said killing people and being selfish are two different things.
And the cases he is not selfish are exactly all around Elena and Steffie.
its okay to be a selfish bastard. His character was fun that way and it emphasized the selflessness he showed towards ELena and the bond that DE built up over S1.
Thats what made S1 DE interesting and fresh compared to dull twilight-y SE - even though Damon was adorable around Elena and changing into a better person, he gave no fucks about anything else and still retained that "badboy" vibe when Elena is not concerned. All of that was gone since S2.

Post Tomb? Yes he would.
S1 Damon might play a badboy but when it comes to Steffie and elena, he is a lost puppy who would do anything even if he does not want to admit that. thats the part of what made S1 damon interesting.

And the dance scene...mmh perfect - one of my favorite bands, continuous eye contact of both Damon and Elena(in a way making everything around them disappear) and at the same time just a little bit of uncertainty from both of them in "what the hell is going on" kind of way.

okay seriously i dont know why everyone is so gaga about this one scene,i just don't get it.maybe im just blind but i fail to feel/see any chemistry btw them.to each his own i guess.
The only thing I can remember from that episode is me feeling like I want to strangle that string quartet for ruining Coldplay's songs. As for DE dancing and making eyes at each other, puhhhleease, it was such a cheese fest - that whole non-touching hand thing - I hate dancing scenes on teen shows in general because everyone looks like they have stick up their asses and can't dance properly, I am still LOLing whenever I remember the ball episode last season where apparently these girls "had training". I even remember now that the Miss Mystic Falls episode was the first tvd s1 episode I watched for 10 mins and then switched the channel immediately cos boi that was lame. I actually prefer the episode where Damon showed up with Caroline to Elena's house for dinner and that conversation they had about katherine and how Elena said she was sorry to Damon - ten times more meaningful for this couple than their dancing scenes or motel kisses. Also it was the time when Elena wore make-up and jewelery and had character so....yeah. God, she doesn't even wear earings anymore, what is wrong with this chick?

I used to ship Delena so hard in season 1. Now I dont' really know how I feel about them. I still like DE better than SE tho.
But seriously, I ship all the guys together!!! Hotness overload.

And I pretty much agree with everything kitty said in this thread.
The Miss Mystic Falls scene is still my favorite. Along with the sacrifice scene in season 2.
