    LOL.its more about having an eye for style rather than money.also caroline was pretty popular too.also, caroline was always supposed to the girliest girl out bonnie and elena,so i can buy the whole caroline spending more time on shopping thing and having better clothes basically.but how elena became popular with her drab hair and clothes and lack of personality is beyond me.

    I still cant make sense how can Elena get really good gowns when her closet is full of shit.

    Meh, Elena's gown looked like it got extracted from Steffy's house drapes anyway. Also, I don't understand why a daughter of a sheriff can dress better and seen to shop more than the daughter of a daughter who happens to be "the most popular girl in school"

     

    Guess she wathched Gone with The Wind the night before that dance, and Bonnie probably did her magic and the gown actually looked like something worhy...oyyyy, no what ruined that dress even more is that Elena or even Nina could not be bothered to straighten out her back and if you wear a sleaveless dress, it matters how you walk in it...but then what am I ever talking about cos these girls "had training" remember....by Mrs Lockwood. Sight....makes me remember GG s1 cotillion...

    But then again Caroline said it best herself: "God bless Elena, but she does not know the meaning of fabulous."

Caroline just knows who she is - independent and strong, so she dresses like that. As for Elena, I get where you are coming from and we have that ridiculous s3 finale to thank for that because it fucking contradicted everything previously stated on the show - remember the Elena we met in the pilot? You could belive that she used to be the popular girl, Jeremy was refered to as "Elena's brother"...and heck, when she told Stefan her parents died the night she went to some party and got drunk, well that could also indicate she used to be popular - and then we see s3 finale and a) she wears the same dull clothes as in s3, b) her hair is the same, c) she wears zero make-up and NO earings! Just jeans+t-shirt+converse - blahhhh. That destroyed all my belief in the myth that Elena used to be popular.

      really? I loved elena's gown in that ep. everyone I know prefers Caroline's, I mean she didn't even pick it out but I guess she liked it enough to wear it.

    i agree and her personal character growth reflected on her clothes too,like in s1 she basically used to wear very frilly,girly clothes.in s2 her clothes became a bit mature yet stylish.in s2,her look was toned down a lot too.but she looked okay i guess,so no one paid any attention.but in s3,god that season completly negated whatever elena was in s3.no personality,no character no nothing.and omg how many times did she repeat her clothes in s3.god.even plot device bonnie has better wardrobe then her.this is the main lead of the show,why can't the producers or whoever spend some money on her look.i swear at least 50% of the ppl would get their interest back in elena if she just dressed better and did something with her hair.

      really? I loved elena's gown in that ep. everyone I know prefers Caroline's, I mean she didn't even pick it out but I guess she liked it enough to wear it.

    i dont know about everyone else but it was just too shimmery,shiny for me lol.

    lol am so glad that other people have pointed out elenas drab hair/stlye. seriously since s4 started i tink her hair gets limper and limper. alot of elena hate comes from fans like stefan and damon more, and elena's character (more so at the moment) is messing with them both.
