The problem with forwood is that the "natural progression" they had was never character-driven, and some of it happened offscreen.

so without developing the characters further as a couple, the only things that could have been writtten for them is sex and external problems.

^which is exact problem with every character in this damn show.  Characters do not drive the plot, plot drives characters, in the end writers ending up making the characters contradict themselves and do illogical shit for the sake of their precious plot.

I totally see your point. The problem is in writing stories do not have to be "character driven". That's a fact. I can point you to tons of articles, magazines, and professors that will tell you that many novels and works of literature take different approaches. Some stories piggyback specifically off the structure of a plot.

Also, a good writer could still make Forwood work. This automatically excludes Plec.

Forwood were great in season 2. Then in season 3 they literally had sex from the first episode and that wasn't a good choice imo. Yes, I know their emotions were hightened and they were horny, but it would be more interesting if Tyler had sex with that random chic he took to Elena's party and Caroline was jealous. And also, Caroline has been a vampire sicne season 2 and suddenly a season later she's horny? But in season 3 Tyler became a hybrid and that entire storyline was interesting for their relationship. Now, I don't know how I feel about them.

@BoredNow when I compared Klaroline to s1 Chair, I didn't mean that I see Klaroline like that. Because they're nothing like that. I meant that that's kind of how I'd like Klaroline to be.

And Elijah has completely lost his badassness. Remember how Rose and her friend were soooo afraid of him? Or when he cut this guy's head off with his bare hand? He was so awesome in season 2. And I liked it when he saved Klaus, because you thought he's moral and he wouldn't betray Elena and the others but he did. But then we saw nothing happening between him and Klaus. Except for like that scene in season 3 when Damon undaggered him and he had this fight with Klaus. I don't have a problem with Elijah being the "moral" one or whatever but I really didn't like the fact that he was just one more person trying to help the precious Elena. It made no sense.

Again, does "badass" mean villain? No, in the western world it doesn't. In the English language it doesn't either. So to imply that Elijah is not a "badass", is to also surmise he is not capable of handling his business. He most certainly can do that if he wishes to.

This road essentially leads back to Plec land.

I was a huge Forwood fan until Plec destroyed the ship. Klaroline is just...there. I honestly don't think about that ship at all. It's kind of like my disregard for the train wreck DES triangle. Matter of preference.

I actually wouldn't care about the letter if Elena deserved an apology. It's not the fact that I hate her, and surprisingly I don't. She's annoying as hell, I don't loathe her. I'd like to think I'm unbiased when a character is treated wrong, for instance I really don't give a crap for Matt and wish he just died, but the Salvatore's giving him shit for surviving the accident was ridiculous. Making someone feel like their life is less meaningful than the other person and saying "you think I wanted to save you first?" Really. Though in Elenas defense, I'm sure she wouldn't have had a choice to help with the family bond spell.

That's your take on it. Good. But many of the comments here suggest a particular annoyance with Elijah because they feel he placates the "damsel in distress" syndrome. BUT the main points of all my comments hit one specific issue--associating a word incorrectly with an automatic assumption.

I know you are not surprised by this. It's been a common theme on this show: Save Elena and throw everybody else under the bus. Who fucking cares if they have to wipe out the whole damn town to achieve this end?

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
