ellen pompeo(merideth grey) has an 8 years contract not 7. there is a season 8 they just havnt written it yet, but im still excited for season 7 next mayPosted 6/26/2010 2:04:46 AM #
All of the contract characters have contracts until at least Season 8.
"I think he'll be mourning Izzie for the next two seasons."
There will be at least 8 seasons.Posted 6/27/2010 12:53:08 AM #
the entire main cast has contracts until season 8, and pompeo said she's done after her contract expires. there can't be grey's anatomy without Meredith GREY, so im guessing only 8 seasons for greys anatomy. and im gonna cry the second the series finale ends :[Posted 7/14/2010 12:20:00 AM #
oh and seasons 1-2 was 1 year, the rest of the seasons after that made 1 year. the 1st seasons time frame was only bout 2 months, so the internship lasts 2 years and then a 5 year residency. lexie arrived at the hospital in the season 3 finale and became a resident in the season 6 premiere, also 2-year internship. once season 8 is done, it would've been 7 years since the beginning as richard said in the pilot episode. can't wait til season 7 :]Posted 7/14/2010 12:26:47 AM #
Actually, surgical residencies can last anywhere from 5-8 years on average. The first year of residency is known as the internship. An internship is only one complete year in the resident's career.
And Ellen didn't say she was done when her contract was up. She said "when my contract is up after Season 8, I would probably not renew." In all likely hood, she could still be apart of the show, but would lack air time and probably lose her "regular" position.

First of all, Shonda has raised the possibility of just making the show about a different Grey if Ellen insists on leaving.
Secondly, Schuyler, Seasons 1-3 was one year (the internship year), Seasons 4 and 5 were another year (2nd year of residency), and season 6 was one year (3rd year of residency). By the end of season 8, they'll have just finished their 5th year. They're about to start their 4th year, which I'm pretty sure means they get to officially declare their specialties, and I'm excited to watch Mer become a neurosurgeon, although I think the chief won't be thrilled about Mer and Der working together.Posted 7/14/2010 4:55:09 PM #
Not only Ellen but Patrick also said he wasn't planning on renewing (forgot where I read it), so with them gone...so will I.
I don't think that the Chief will have a problem have Meredith choose Neuro (although I'm almost sure she'll choose General -because of Ellis). Mer works with Derek on all of his high profile cases, and hasn't said a word and now that his alcoholism has come out with Derek, he shouldn't have any problem.
It'd be old to have that jealousy type.Posted 7/14/2010 5:49:56 PM #
Yes, Patrick said the same thing as Ellen that he wasn't planning to renew his contract after S8. I am glad if PD/EP will leave together, MerDer will have their happy ending. Maybe they will leave Seattle with their baby and go somewhere else or something.
Lol many people will leave with them I'm sure.Posted 7/14/2010 5:58:17 PM #
Only read a few of the comments but just want to point out that each season doesn't correspond to one year in their timeline, like the first three seasons are all about their first year as interns, so based on that, they could nearly do 21 seasons, but as much as is love that .... I doubt that'll happen :(Posted 9/5/2010 5:28:12 PM #
About the years, Bailey got pregnant and had her baby in season 2, which makes season 2 last something like a year. Plus the first season that might have been a couple of months(as mer said in episode 2 of the second season" Dr. Derek Shepherd: No. Come o... I bared my soul to you last night. Dr. Meredith Grey: It's not enough. Dr. Derek Shepherd: How can that not be enough? Dr. Meredith Grey: When you waited two months, to tell me, and I had to find out by her showing up, all leggy and fabulous, and telling me herself, you pulled the plug. I'm a sink with an open drain. Anything you say, runs right out. There is no enough."). And in episode 3 of the sixth season bailey told the schizophrenic patient “i’m not an alien. i’m not one of them. my name is miranda bailey. i have a three-year-old son, and i would do anything for him, just like your mom would do anything for you."which makes the 6 seasons last 4-5 years. And by the way Lexie is a 2nd year resident ("Mark:(Lexie's crying) No way. Are you serious? I'm gonna go the Chief myself, I'm gonna tell him you're the best 2nd year resident i've even seen. Lexie: No. I'm safe. I didn't get cut, Mark. I'm safe." season 6 episode 3.) and the others I think I remember someone saying that they are 4th year resident but I can´t remember the episode.Posted 9/5/2010 7:03:59 PM #
