even though it says they will spend the next 7 years of thier lives there, that isn't going by the amount of seasons. In seasons 1, 2 AND 3, Meredith, Izzie, George, Alex and Cristina were interns. (FIRST YEAR RESIDENTS). Minus George, the interns became 2 year residents in season 4. Thats when Lexie (Chyler Leigh) and the other interns showed up. Even still here we are in season 6 and if I'm not mistaken, Lexie is STILL an intern. So it's obviously not going by Season 1-Year 1 (internship) Season 2- Year 2.....

Oh god I hope there is 8 seasons!! But Ellen Pompeo said in an interview in a magazine I was reading that she has signed up to do 2 more seasons so surely that means 7&8 cause she said "more" and she is currently already filming season 6?!

I've read on Fanpop couple of times that Shonda already confirmed 8 seasons at least! :))) I was sooooo happy to hear that, but I hope I'm not jumping around too early. And also that the storylines won't get crappy anytime soon, but since it's Greys...I don't see that coming, they still have something to surprise with :DUhm, and to the problem of years...yes, the first 3 seasons were one year...seasons 4 and 5 were another year, but Lexie isn't an intern anymore! She said she was becoming a resident that day in S6 premiere, so it's the third year now! And already the second half of it. I know we've seen only 2 Christmases on Greys, but I think they just skipped it in year 2.

Just to clarify, in real life an internship is usually 3 years and a residency is at least 1 year (residency is used to learn more complex procedures which is why we often hear "5th year resident surgery").  And season 2 was an entire year because Mark said to Derek something about how he wasted the last year of his life with Addison rather than Meredith.  They also became residents in the beginning of season 4 and with an internship lasting 3 years that would make each of the previous seasons a year each (like I said season 2 was for sure a year).  I believe they are around their 3rd year of residency, currently in season 6, so roughly the seasons are by years.

But then again, interns usually don't get paid in the real world, and they have mentioned internship salary in the first 3 seasons (best example of George and Caillie fighting about their hotel rent).  However, Seattle Grace is supposed to be one of the best teaching hospitals in the country in the series so I wouldn't be surprised if they got paid.

Actually, PD has an 8 year contract, same as EP, which run through S8. EP said that after that, she's done so she can raise her daughter. I honestly find hard to believe that PD would stay after her gone.

Now, it's just a debate if SR and ABC will go on after they go. Sounds morbid, but I kinda wish they set the S8 finale as the series finale. I'm worried about what would happen to Grey's Anatomy without the Grey.
