    So abuse is okay if both are dark and understand each other.it makes for a great television when  its done properly and fits the character and is actually something that gets slowly solved(in case of spuffy, both of them got over their shit and managed to become better people, even if still completely dysfunctional in terms of pairing).

    Its their favorite thing to do. 

    • He gets off on the danger of death, she gets off on the danger of death.
    • Buffy likes dark and dangerous people, Spike likes Buffy.
    • They both not exactly fit in into either natural or supernatural.
    • She likes to punch him, He likes to punch her.
    • She hates him for reminding of her own flaws and imperfections. He hates her for reminding of his own flaws and imperfections. 
    • She loves him because he truly understands her. He loves her because she truly understands him.

     

     

     

    Half the dysfunctionality of their relationship is all about using each other to vent out the self-loathing by projecting(because you are unable to accept you have those flaws).

    And the non-dysfunctional part of their relationship was all about them being adorable.

    Spike used to beat Buffy? :O

    And vice-versa. It was kind of their thing. Hell, their first sex was bassically mix of them trying to kill each other and, well...sex. It was their thing to the point that it got VERY disturbing sometimes. 

    I guess that's what you get when you throw  two highly nihilistic self-centered egoists into a love pairing.
