As for the episode, I thought it was a very good one. I liked the crime, I loved the humor, and the Magnum PI references at the end. Still hoping we see Tom Selleck back in Hawaii. Putting the picture on the guys leg making him look at what he had done to his own friends was a great touch. Kono to the rescue. As someone said, Wiley coyote style, for the old road runner cartoons. I see H50 has been renewed as we all knew it would be. I'm little more nervous about the 5th year and if they do move it to another night, how that will affect it.
The Catherine character is fine. If they put her in an episode, people complain they are showing too much of her. If they just have her show up for one segment, then they don't know what to do with her. There are going to be times when all of these character are their in one segment, and then get an episode centered around them. The only one, as it should, is McG who is the lead character and is in most of the show. Danny comes in 2nd because of the relationship to McG. Chin and Kono are a close to Danny. The rest of the regulars get their shots as well. No one is being overdone.
I don't understand the comments about how Steve looked at Catherine in the last episode. What were you looking at? He obviously was showing that he understood, probably did not like it, but understood what Catherine did. Afterall he can tell the difference, he Mom made excuses, but Catherine said she was wrong.
I thought this was a fun episode. I think they showed Dog the bounty hunter at just the right amount. I loved that Catherine finally told Steve, and I'm glad that he understood it was mostly Mom, and he decided to forgive. Although, Steve is the one who through Catherine into the Mom situation, so he can't lay all the blame on someone else. I liked the Black clothes he was wearing, he wore them for the funeral scene which is where they came from. Alex looks good in anything. I'm liking this season. I do agree that I would like more answers coming faster about Mama McG. I guess they are building up for the finale. I would also like to see them settle the Adam's brother with Kono's gun thing before the end of the season.
As for the Danny haters, I understand you don't like him, but did you notice when he whines so do you? Just a thought.
Cont.... Loved seeing Larry Manetti, playing a Nick instead of Rick as he did in Magnum. One of my favorite shows of the past. I'm still holding out hope we see Tom Selleck. They left it open for Larry Manetti to come back as he was Senior McG's friend, and probably an informant. Just like his Magnum roll, only much older. Nice stop by the older Nick, knowing he could get him with a short cut across his establishment.
Well we are off for the next 3 weeks, not too many episodes left.
Hi Gabrielle, thanks for the review. I'm a football fan, but I understand not everyone is. I liked this episode very much. I do have to agree that Catherine was already at the game, and afterall it was a separted shoulder, painful, but not exactly life threatening. I was impressed that they showed Danny staying with Steve. I don't think Steve dumped her, he has already said he was going with Danny before he knew Catherine had tickets. Even though her tickets were actually sideline passes. Catherine was very thoughtful for getting Danny a signed football by his favorite player, and I was glad to see she took Kono.
Chin has been producing a local theater play which will end on March 2nd, which is why we probably have not seen much of him in the episodes.
Cont... As for this episode I loved that they showed the softer side to Kamekono, and thought it was hilarious when Danny could not put the handcuffs on him, and asked if there was a bicycle chain in the trunk. Summer Glau did play her emotional scenes well, and I loved her kickass scene. I hope we see her again. Doris and Mick make a good couple. I do hope they don't take long to explain what actually happened with Doris and her connection to Wofat. I don't think that will have to end the character.
I liked this episode. I think the writing is fine. Loved seeing Catherine, they are showing her the way they said they would, and not blasting her in every episode which was the complaint with Lori. McG needs a girlfriend, you would expect him to have a girlfriend. Look at him! I hope we see more of her. I think the Doris character is played right, of course we don't trust her and neither should Steve. I don't like what she did to her family, but then again it is a TV show not real. They are telling a story, to make it interesting, you can't have every character be trusted, sweet, and normal. The core 4 have their flaws as well. Danny is fine, thats his character and he plays well off of Steve. I think too many people talk like everyone in their is perfect, every relationship is perfect, no one has an opinion opposite theirs, no one bitches and whines about things, etc. I think they need to look at their lives a little closer and just enjoy a show and don't take it seriously, the actors and writers don't. Love this season
I watched the original on CBS.com over the weekend. It was a great episode, and I think that the current H50 did a great job recreating it and still having it updated to today. I loved seeing that they used the same scenes, even the green Mustang. The original had about 50 minutes, which shows you how much all of today's shows, show commercials. The average show today is around 42 minutes. I would have loved to see another 8 minutes of our show, but money talks.
I think that they did put in a little debate on the gun control issue. I don't see anything wrong in that, they did not go on forever, and showed both sides. I don't think Danny did not know the laws that Hawaii has, he was simply stating an opinion, which is what Danny does. You would expect him to be the one to do so, which is in character, so the writers did a good job without going on and on about it. Very enjoyable show, I like the character stuff, but we need one every so often about the crime itself.
Have watched it from the start. Can't believe its been 10 years. Very happy about the early extension.
@Walter...thanks for the information. Sounds good, one of my favorite Magnum episodes was when Sinatra was on tracking the killer of his granddaughter. Rick owned a club in Magnum. Looking forward to the rest of the season with our new TV hero's in Hawaii.
