While casting is decent(P.Tonkin was the only good thing about TSC, although I pretty much hoped she would get on to a show that is well....respectable and decent, instead of tvd), I do not have any hopes of her character on TVD doing anything decent.
She is clearly created to be purely an obstacle for forwood and with the ridiculous amounts of sexism and misogyny in this show, I do not expect her to amount to anything beyond that, not that I care.
tragedy? Oh shoot!! another pointless extra will get offed? Oh my... how shocking. zzz....
But my problem with it is people refuse to accept that it was Elena's decision to make....not Stefan's decision to force her to make.
Actually no. It was writers decision and a shitty one.
Any sensible person would just have made Steffie do the logical thing - rip off the seatbelts, for example. But no, this is TVD, everyone has to do the MOST irrational, illogical and lame decisions for the plot to advance.
Aaand, just as I thought.
What did I tell? The show WILL find a way to make ELena's death all about the angst of love of salvatore bros completely ignoring any possibilities to develop her character or make her react, YET AGAIN.
What has become of this show...
, how is any of it supposed to be believable? It is a super natural show.
Just because the show is in supernatural genre, it does not suddenly allow the show and the narrative to ignore the very basic writing guidelines of HUMAN relatable characters. These people are not some alien or fairy race with different culture and morals. They are humans, they exist in "real world", but with supernatural elements. Thus the "real world" part HAS to be believable and make sense.
Elena display barely to no reaction to, well, EVERYTHING and does not have a defined narrative that would develop her personality and allow her to grow as character through episodes. There's nothing, just yet another Bella Swan. And that makes it nigh to impossible to relate to ANYTHING she goes through, because she does not even "go through" anything. She just stands in the scene(or in this case lies)
Aaand, Nina Dobrev still can't act even if to save her life.
I am sorry, this was supposed to be believable? this was supposed to be a girl who just died and found out she is a vampire now? sorry, what?
Nope. This was a girl who woke up after hang-over and is frustrated that someone vomited on her favorite shirt she got from salvation army.
emotional range. Elena has none.
oh look, more obligatory "to die characters that hog the screen time only to get killed for SHOCKING moment", that TVD is known for... meh.
Just end the whole hybrid storyline already. The whole Klaus storyline is one huge disjointed trainwreck by now. But then again, everything in the show is that too.
and suddenly I want to sleep.
This show is the best cure for insomnia now.
frankly the show could not get ANY MORE predictable, its already clear what happens in first ep:
- Elena whines for few seconds about this "totally" horrible situation she is in, then the rest of that time is spent on damon and steffie arguing and show making this whole situation all about them.
- Bonnie tries to un-turn Elena, fails, blah blah no one cares.
- The new random redshirt hunters rush the gilbert house, elena ends up chewing on leader and then continues to be a boring mary sue for the rest of the season.
Also, sorry show and show writers - if you expected the viewers TO FEEL ANYTHING AT ALL about Miss Cardboard dying or going through this stuff, you should have...oh I don't know, spent at least 5 minutes of screen time in those 66 episodes that already aired, DEVELOPING her into a relatable and complex character, like a lead character should be?
Sadly since that was not done and all the shock-therapy the turning could provide has been milked dry by everyone and their mothers(literally) turning into vampires, Elena does not evoke any more feelings than any other piece of furniture on the set.
