I have to say, though I know it is a bit cheesy (okay, maybe more than a bit) that ever since I watched the original Hawaii Five-O with my family in the 70s (and we all thought that the theme song was so GROOVY!)that the best part of the show for me was when McGarrett would say "Book em, Danno" and the bad guy did the perp walk. Now whenever I hear Alex O say to Scott Caan, "Book em, Danno" I get this dejavu thrill of knowing the bad guy, or gal, is going down, thanks to our heroes. That, and the hunky men (Daniel Dae Kim, Scott Caan and Alex O'Loughlin) make this reboot of H5O totally worthwhile for me.
Now as to this ep, I have to agree with Elisa on this: "That's going to be McG's dilemma. Can he live with THIS mother? Can she really be family to him? And is she going to end up dragging Cath down with her, and ruin that relationship for McG too?" I found myself thinking along similar lines, wondering how Steve is going to deal with his sociopathic mother and now a girlfriend who agrees to hide things from him. Scary! I loved the fact that Steve was certain of the madam psycotherapist's guilt right from the get-go, and he never swerved from that opinion, despite his coworkers thinking he was crazy.
BTW, if anything happens to my beloved Nolan in the season finale, I will have to quit watching the show, because I adore him, he's such a great guy, and so sexy whether he's with a female or a male companion!
Wow, great episode, and though we learn what an evil python Victoria's mother is, I still think that Victoria could have taken a lesson from her evil mother and realized that even getting revenge years later won't stop the cycle of horrible abusive behavior until she takes the reins and stops behaving like a rabid animal. There are a lot of people out there who had poisonous parents, in fact, none of us have perfect parents, but we didn't become sociopaths because of it. That is a choice, to continue to wreak havoc on the lives of others for your own enjoyment. So I have no sympathy for Victoria, or her mother, actually. I LOVED Aiden/Emilys moments together, and I loved how they met, it was so James Bond-ish on Emily's part. They really have chemistry.
Interesting episode, though I am not thrilled that Hook somehow managed to get Aurora's heart without any of the audience seeing him do it, and without us even knowing that he could...kinda a plot hole there, writers.
Loved Charming and Snow meeting in the netherworld, though I am sad that Charming will have to stay there until they can get back to Storybrooke. And I love that Charming was so intent on saving Henry from another trip to the burning netherworld that he was willing to have a sleepcurse put into his bloodstream via a spindle.
I loved this episode, because we got to see that hottie Deeks in a wet suit, which is always yummy, and because he was so funny throughout the ep, slapping Kenzi on the bum, making all those funny one-liners...I really am hoping that he and Kenzi get together, even if it is just for a little while for a romp in the hay!And I love that Kenzi is such a nerd she didn't know the 'hang loose' sign for hands. Funny stuff. The second best scene in the ep was Callen talking about foster care with the kid who took the video. So much pain those kids go through, its heartbreaking. Oh, and it is nice to see Hettie getting in there and taking control of the ops room and telling people where to go and what to do! She's small but mighty! GO Hettie!
I LOVED the end to this episode, it really showed that Tony cares for Ziva, and it was touching that she honors her sister every year by listening to opera. That was just nice work on the part of the actors and the writers.
And to the reviewer, it was spelled, I believe, KERSEY, not "curse-y", which is how it sounds phonetically.
I thought the PTS storyline came together a bit too fast at the end, but I felt it was important to have this episode in a show that lionizes the military.
Viewers need to see the consequences of sending young men off to war and finding them coming home broken. Gibbs did a great job in this ep, and I thought Ducky did, too, but then I love Ducky and Abby, as they always do a great job...loved Abby's mention of caffiene-coated green beans! LOL
Oh, and I LOVE the Amber/Ryan romance...they are so good for each other and Ryan looks incredibly hot in a uniform! YUM!I loved watching them play in the surf together, it reminded me of that 1950s movie with the actors rolling around on the beach in the surf...I hope that Amber and Ryan get married, because I think they honestly love one another and Ryan is healing with Ambers TLC.
But I am not loving deceitful Drew who uses his Aunts cancer to get his ex girlfriend in bed...what a creep! I am glad that Marc had the 'talk' with him, but still, he's just such a jerk, and his mother isn't helping at all. She needs to realize teenage boys don't want to talk to their mother about their sex life, they'd rather talk to a guy, if at all. I hope Sara doesn't dump Marc for her boss, because I think that romance would end badly.
I agree with Jim's comment above that we need less of Max, because he's just becomming a character that most viewers cannot stand, he's always completely selfish, rude, won't help with the dog like he swore he would (he lets the dog pee all over) and he could care less that his mother is sick, and instead of helping he makes life extra hard for his dad who is dealing with a very sick mom. I have never been a fan of Monica Potter, and I realize we are supposed to have a lot of sympathy for her now that she has cancer, but I think she's screwed up Max by giving him everything he wants without any consequences and she took on another handicapped kid this weekend just because she's too much of a wimp to say no...I mean WTF? She dropped it all in Adams lap and he nearly imploded keeping up with it all. And she thought she'd be the only one to not get sick from Chemo? REALLY? What an idiot!
Excellent episode, and I, too, cried when Addison wrote that letter for Vivian, it was just heartbreaking. And I gotta give some kudos to the hottie ER doc, he was just awesome in this episode, flirting with a dying woman to help keep her mind off the pain. Good man, and good doctor. But yeah, I thought the whole thing in the park with Henry's biological mom was pretty awkward and I was truly amazed at how graciously Addy behaved when she was being ambushed by this whiny 'grandma'---I mean its certainly not Addisons fault that her daughter doesn't confide in her that she's pregnant! Sheez. Oh, and I also liked the scene between Coop and Charlotte and Coops son, where he explained why he didn't want to know his 'birth' parents.
I enjoyed this episode, though I thought the death of the hacker kid was a bit too bleak for the show, I still loved that his autistic little brother helped solve the case, and got a badge from Kono at the end (that was the best thing I've seen Kono do so far in this show). I loved the look on Steve's face when his mother and his sister reunited and were crying...that was such a loving look, and heaven knows Alex O is such a gorgeous man, any screen time they give to him is time well spent. And I agree with the person who commented at how well Daniel Dae Kim reacted in this episode. You really could almost hear him thinking that he couldn't bear to lose another woman in his life. He's a marvelous actor.
I enjoyed last nights episode, and not just for the Booth and Bones aspect of it, but also for the wonderful Hodgins/TJThyne and Angela...I adore their characters and their relationship, and watching them do what they do best is thrilling. I was a bit surprised that Cam and Aristu (Aristoo? How do you spell his name, anyway?) have such a hot romance going, I didn't see that coming at all, and I think that he is much younger than she is, but I can totally see Cam as a cougar, anyway, lol. I found Aristu's recitation of Persian/Farsi poetry to be just heart-meltingly beautiful, and I laughed at Hodgins "translation" of poetry for Angela ("You are my carburator") BTW, lay off Sweets, please. He's an excellent actor and an interesting character.
I was so relieved that this episode was more in line with the old Castle that I was nearly in tears by the end. That "documentary" episode was so bad it had shaken my faith in this great program.
But I really loved the fact that Rick and Kate had a talk about their relationship and how different they were, and they realized that it doesn't matter as long as they love and respect one another. I loved, loved, loved it when Kate threw her arms around Castle's neck at the end. Their love and concern for one another is just beautiful. I sincerely hope that they get married and I also hope that they have a child together because they're such gorgeous people, and such good people I think they'd make great babies together, and I think Castle would be hilarious as a dad again....especially if she gave birth to twin boys! Think about it! They could name them Kevin and Javier!
Reviewer, I am sure you didn't mean to say "extract" revenge, when the proper phrase is to "exact" revenge, still, I thought your review covered most of the bases, but failed to note how well the show dealt with the lesbian couple at it's center. I find the homophobic comments ridiculous, as saying that they were "Hollywood" lesbians or somehow too good looking to be gay, or that they chose women because male gays offend audiences more that females do (which is wrong, look at the show "Scandal" with Cyrus and his journalist husband who are openly gay)doesn't make sense. Gays and lesbians come in all shapes and sizes and levels of "beauty" just like everyone else. Of course a TV show is going to have better looking people than reality because it is TV...everyone is good looking, for the most part. I doubt there was any agenda beyond trying to make good drama with attractive people, like most TV shows. This was a great episode, and I enjoyed it, especially Finch and his near-faint in the OR.
Reviewer said"To me, this hour didn't feel like a tragedy. It felt like a tribute both to an infamous day in our nation's history and to the characters we know and love."
AMEN to that, and I wholeheartedly agree that this episode felt like one from 4 years ago, back when Bones was still a good program.
In all honesty, this was the BEST episode of Bones I have seen since Season 3, and it is certainly in the running for the best episode of all time. Brilliantly acted, full of moving moments of talk about 9/11, and great touching scene at the end. I was sobbing throughout the episode, and especially when the squinterns were talking about 9/11, and then again at the funeral. My God, this truly pointed to the reason for the Jeffersonian to exist, to give voice to lost heroes. Thank you, producers, for honoring the fallen and for helping me to believe in a show that I thought was dead.
I am with Mary and Josie on this one, this episode was embarrassingly bad. All the characters mugging for the camera like they'd never seen one before, and all the over-the-top scene-chewing by Esposito and Castle was just AWFUL.
I mean, I love this show generally, and I have watched every episode with growing affection for the characters, but I cannot understand WHY the producers of the show would feel the need to show each character at their worst, most attention-grabbing,narcissistic selves. And Gates was particularly annoying, with her lies about always being there for her detectives and all that other crap she was spewing...it was terrible. It was like watching bad vaudville comedians who aren't funny, just vulgar. Embarrassing! Please don't go this ever again, producers, or you will lose your fan base!
BTW, I wasn't annoyed at all with Violet this week, which is a rarity, so I am glad that the reviewer didn't have the VAS up either. And I loved Amelia's monologue during the latter part of the show.
Before anyone is critical of this episode of Private Practice, they should be made to watch the debacle that was this weeks episode of Castle, which was also a "reality TV" show. Most of the actors on Castle appeared to think making faces and mugging/overacting/chewing scenery was somehow entertaining instead of just embarrassing. The plot was thin, the acting horrible and in general, I think most people would wish to have that hour of their life back.
In comparison, the Sam reality TV show stunt wasn't half bad. Taye Diggs is a beautiful man, and his smile is just gorgeous, plus, he's got a sexy voice and he is a fine actor, so I didn't bat an eye at him having a reality show. Alfrie Woodard is also a great actress, so I found their scenes beautifully done. But I thought Coop's greed for a show because of the money he'd make per episode embarrassingly immature and stupid, especially for a pediatrician who makes, I'm sure, at least six figures.
I am with Amie and the reviewer, GREAT episode, and that ultra-hot kiss at the end melted my socks off! Emily and Aiden are both so gorgeous, that seeing the two of them with all that sexual tension was incredible...I wish we could have seen a bit more of them tearing one another's clothing off before the end of the scene, but still, nice job, actors!
And yes, my beloved Nolan came through, as he always does, and I loved that he told Aiden that if he hurt Emily, he'd have nowhere to hide from Nolan the knight in shining armor! Nolan is just the best! I am still not a fan of his relationship with Padma, but I see that in next weeks ep there is some sexual stuff going on between him and another guy, so I guess he's not that serious about her anyway. And I thought the commercials for "gifts from Revenge" were fun and kinda cool. It was nice to see most of the cast dressed up and smiling!
Loved this ep, thought the music was fabulous, but I also felt that some of the scenes seemed a bit forced, especially the ones with Unique in the bathroom and the Hand Jive one. I also really dislike Kitty, the blond cheerleader replacement for Quinn. She's just an itty-bitty nasty B, and her character has no depth, other than meanness. At least Quinn had some facets to her character.
I loved this episode, more so than previous episodes, because things heated up nicely between Laurel and Oliver. I thought the whole "let me see your scars" thing was hot! And I adore Paul Blackthorne, mainly because he was Harry Dresden for a short time, and did such an impressive job at it.
I liked the fight sequence between Deathstroke and the original Arrow, too, that was pretty interesting to watch.
Oh, and the line of the night was the mama bear "burning your world to ashes" line that Oliver's mother delivered to the ever-hot Captain Jack! WTG!
Kind of a goofy, wierd ep, and I agree with the reviewer that we never really got to find out WHY the perp and his evil creepy grandmother were performing satanic rituals...I mean, what was the point? Did they feel that was something to share to make their relationship work? Did they feel they were getting special powers or favors by sacrificing people? All that nasty blood and killing, and we only get the grandma killing herself and another officer and the perp getting shot down at the last minute by Steve. I thought the scene with Katherine and Grace was pretty nice, and I loved the end scene when Danno cuddled up to Steve to watch The Notebook, but other than that, this ep was kind of a wash. And though I wouldn't be too sad if they did phase out Grace Park (she doesn't really have any acting skills), I would be devastated if they got rid of Daniel Dae Kim, who is a wonderful actor.
If you need to see how the main couple in a TV series can be handled properly, you only need look to Castle. Beckett and Castle are in an intimate relationship in season 4, and they ACT LIKE THEY ARE IN LOVE. They touch each other, they smile, they whisper things to each other, they look at one another with affection and passion. Booth and Bones haven't acted like they're in love at all, they've not shared any touching moments, they don't look at each other tenderly, they barely speak kindly to one another (they argue a lot, though) and I haven't seen them flirt with one another since season 3. I hate to say it but I think this show is done. I think it has outlived its characters and is now going downhill in quality pretty fast. Though I would miss Hodgins and Angela, who actually have a believable relationship, I think Bones should shut things down now, before the show becomes a parody of itself.
Though I liked this episode, mainly because of the interactions with Sweets, whom I adore, I totally understand where the reviewer was coming from, and I agree that the show isn't what it used to be. It was a tightly written show the first 3-4 seasons, but I think that the past 3 seasons have been increasingly lame with regards to the Brennan/Booth relationship, which I believe the producers totally screwed up by waiting too long to bring them together, and then not showing them having intimate relations or developing their relationship sexually at all, just suddenly having Brennan get pregnant out of nowhere. They have had little or no chemistry since season 5, and it is painfully obvious now that they are parents and can barely seem to get along like people who've been friends for a long time. Loved the dancing at the end.
LOVED this ep, but I didn't see Frake's cameo, darnit! Unless he was the guy getting the autograph from Castle at the first part, but I thought that was James Patterson or some other famous mystery/thriller author. Anyway, the references to Firefly were fabulous, and I loved that Armin Shimmerman played the fake arms dealer! And I loved that Nathan Fillion said "Shiny" early on in the ep, as yet another nod to Firefly, which was a great show. Hilarious reaction to Alexis' cosplay, BTW, and good for Beckett for calming him down about it. And that guy who played the captain of the ship was just creepy and egotistical enough to pay homage to Star Trek TOS. Oh, and I didn't think Stana looked chunky or pregnant at all, in fact, she seemed thinner to me.
