The end is fast approaching for James Olsen on Supergirl.
EW.com is reporting that original cast member Mehcad Brooks is leaving the popular CW drama series in the fall.
Brooks reportedly wants to “focus on feature films and develop a cable series in which he would star,” in addition to writing a book.
“We love Mehcad and we’re sad to see him leave the show as a series regular,” said showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller in a statement to EW.
“[W]e look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister [Kelly, played by new series regular Azie Tesfai] and his super friends.”
The good news here is that it sounds like James is not being killed off. This is thanks to the wording of the statement.
Supergirl is in the early stages of production on its fifth season, so it's good to know that Olsen is not getting an off-screen departure.
The news comes a day after Jeremy Jordan announced he would be returning to the drama for a three-episode stint after sitting out the entirety of the fourth season.
Jordan is returning following the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover which will air across the five Arrowverse shows this year.
As for whether Brooks' exit will play out ahead of the crossover, we have no idea, but that will likely be confirmed down the line.
Brooks has a string of TV credits including True Blood, The Game, and Desperate Housewives.
Supergirl Season 5 is slated to premiere Sunday, October 6 at 9/8c out of the series premiere of Batwoman.
