With bombs being dropped left and right, it was impossible to fully wrap your head around everything that happened on Siren Season 2 Episode 15.

While the mermaids' fertility issues are still front and center in Ryn's mind, her safety remains Ben and Maddie's priority. 

Ben and Maddie's feelings for Ryn is by far what makes Siren such a compelling series, to begin with. 

Their unconditional love for her is what pushes the story forward as it affects characters who aren't even in the relationship. 

No matter who's coming after Ryn, no one can get to her without going through Ben and Maddie. Their protectiveness of her keeps danger at bay but also invites danger into their own lives.

What Ben and Maddie have gone through for Ryn is often overlooked because of how often they put themselves on the line for her. 

Helen: They could implant the fertilized egg. But extracting the egg and then fertilizing the egg requires special equipment and expertise they don't have.
Ben: Okay, so let's have the military do that part, then we'll get Beth's doctors to transfer it to Ryn.
Maddie: You just said the military isn't going to hand that embryo over.
Ben: They won't. We'd have to take it.

The unique part about it is that there's not much of an explanation of why Ben and Maddie fell for Ryn so soon after they met her. She didn't speak English well and had trouble communicating who she was and what she wanted.

Yet they all had an instant connection, and while others care about Ryn's body, Ben and Maddie care about the person inside of it. 

The relationship between the three might not have appeared to be a huge part of Siren Season 2 Episode 15, but it was the driving force just as it has been every episode since Siren Season 1 Episode 1.

Every move they've made, including stealing Ryn's embryo's and taking her to Beth's doctor for them to be implanted, is rooted in how much they care about her. 

Ben: We can't do this with the military. Even if it was successful they'd never let us transfer the embryo back to Ryn. They'd want to control it.
Ryn: But it is mine!
Maddie: They would grow the baby in the lab without you.

It was this that made the ending of Siren Season 2 Episode 15 so heartbreaking. Ben and Maddie's screams and the way they threw themselves in front of Ian's car to save Ryn was somehow more upsetting than Ryn being kidnapped in the first place. 

When it comes to Ryn's safety, Ben and Maddie seem to act on pure adrenaline and don't even think twice about self-preservation. 

That's why Ian is in for a world of hell. 

Maybe it's a bit arrogant, but I'm not worried about Ryn one bit.

Besides their determination to save her, Ben and Maddie's intelligence goes far beyond Ian's. I can't wait for him to realize that he picked the wrong trio to mess with.

There's also Beth's family which is getting weirder by the minute. There was some sense behind their fertility ritual, but there were also aspects of it that felt unnecessary. 

If it wasn't already giving off an eerie vibe, the soundtrack that was playing pushed the creep factor up over the edge. 

Beth never became a character that I trusted, and I was surprised that Helen accepted her as an ally so quickly.

Does Beth know that her doctor implanted the first embryo into someone else? Or is this news to her as well? It could go either way.

Funnily enough, one of the best parts of Siren is its ability to integrate humor into the story naturally.

It doesn't go out of it's way to make the audience laugh, but it highlights moments with the mermaids that are bound to invoke one.

The reason the series is so comedic is that the comedy is essentially built into the situation.

Does a merman know how to jack off in a cup? Nope. But do we need him to to continue the reproduction storyline? Yup. 

The best comedy always comes from confronting the awkwardness. And we have to give Helen a shoutout for stepping up to the plate. 

Ryn: What is this?
Ben: It's for him. For the...donation. You know...for him to...
Maddie: I think you're gonna need to show him how to do it.
Ben: I'm gonna show him?
Maddie: You want me to do it?
Ben: No!
Helen: Oh, for God's sake! I'll do it.
Maddie: Wait, you're gonna do it with him?
Helen: I'm gonna teach him how to do it. The rest is up to him.
Ryn: Helen is a good teacher.

Does anyone else miss Nicole way too much? Or are Xander and I the only two who care?

The last time Xander saw Nicole, they were in a good place. After the lengths Nicole went through to get him back and prove that her feelings for him were real, it doesn't make sense that she would leave without so much as a goodbye.

Xander: There was no sign of Nicole in there?
Ben: No. Did you text her again?
Xander: Yeah, like twenty times!

Nicole may have been watching Ben, Maddie, and Ryn on her laptop, but is it really what it seemed?

She told Ben on Siren Season 2 Episode 12 that he could trust her, and for some reason, I still believe her. Is it possible that Nicole wasn't supposed to know about those cameras? Was she planning on warning them?

If Commander Kyle took Nicole as the maid suggested, she must have gone against his orders. And anytime Nicole goes against her Commander, it's usually in Ryn's favor. 

Stray Thoughts:

• Xander and Nicole are still my favorite ship. Maybe it's because they both went from being the worst characters to the best. And how can you not love the "fake relationship turned real" trope?

• Xander raised a good point about Chris' memory loss. If it happened to him, who's to say it can't happen to Ben and Maddie?

• Ben's mom may be doing better, but getting her more stem cells is a task that no one is equipped to handle. Not only would Ben and Maddie have to listen to Ryn's siren song again, but they would have to travel back underwater to be healed. 

• This is Siren we're talking about, and there's no way Ben's dad hallucinated the woman underwater during his wife's accident. It may have happened years ago, but is it possible that we know the mermaid who attacked him?
