Fear the Walking Dead is staying put at AMC.
The popular spinoff of The Walking Dead has been renewed for a sixth season. The show's cast confirmed the news Friday at San Diego Comic-Con.
There was never a question over whether the series would be renewed. It remains the network's second highest-rated series behind only The Walking Dead.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 is currently averaging 2 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating, down sharply vs. last year.
The show does remain a solid option in delayed viewing, and we need to take into consideration here that AMC has been making this season's episodes available 48 hours earlier for AMC Premiere subscribers.
But even with the erosion, it is a solid performer, and given that it is a spinoff of one of the most popular series on the air, it will probably go for as long as AMC wants it to.
That being said, the show has been controversial over the last few seasons, primarily because a good chunk of original series regulars were written out.
The show went through a creative overhaul during Fear the Walking Dead Season 4, but the most recent episodes have been criticized by many for poor plotting, dialogue that does not fit the show, among other things.
For now, Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 8 -- the midseason finale -- is slated to air Sunday at 9/8c.
The series currently stars Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Maggie Grace, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Garret Dillahunt, Alexa Nisenson, Jenna Elfman, Ruben Blades, Karen David, and Austin Amelio.
