It's sad, but it's true:

Lucifer will end with its upcoming fifth season at Netflix.

The news was announced just over a week ago, and while it's good to know the show will be getting a conclusion, the big question remaining was whether the final season would have an expanded episode order.

Sadly, we have confirmation that Lucifer Season 5 will span ten episodes, in line with Lucifer Season 4, the show's first season on Netflix.

This means the series will conclude with 77 episodes.

Co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich revealed the news via Twitter early Monday morning:

“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of ‘Lucifer’ on our terms,” said showrunners Joe Henderson and Modrovich when the news got announced.

“Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!!”

“We’re thrilled that ‘Lucifer’ fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix, and we can’t wait to give them the big finish they’ve all been waiting for,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement at the same time.

The series stars Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, and Rachael Harris.

It was originally canceled by Fox in 2018 after three seasons, with Netflix stepping in to save the day just weeks later.

So, the show will have spent two additional seasons at Netflix when it concludes. Many fans are upset by the news, and have been vocal on social media about it.

"It’s beautifully overwhelming to know how much love there is for #lucifer out there...thank you to everyone for your congratulations on the announcement of our final season," Tom Ellis said via Twitter, adding:

"It’s bittersweet for us too but all good things must come to an end...always leave them wanting more! ❤️😈"

His co-star echoed those sentiments.

"Thank you sincerely for your words and support. I can’t even believe how much I’ve seen from you all that you want a season 6 and more," she said after the news got announced.

She then told fans to be heard if they wanted additional seasons.

"#Lucifans If you want a season 6 or more let it be heard," she said.

"We love that you love #Lucifer your support on social media is cherished and important."

"And if it’s only a season 5...I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. We won’t let you down. But if you want more let everyone know."

Lucifer Quotes

Cop: Are you trying to bribe me, sir?
Lucifer: Yes, of course.

Amenadiel: You are a mockery of everything divine.
Lucifer: Thank you. Thank you, but lately I've been thinking. Do you think I'm the Devil because I'm inherently evil, or just because dear ol' dad decided I was?
