Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6 Review: The Ghost Train of Sierra Perdida

at .

Could we pick up the pace just a little?

Danny and Lexi continued racing against Farouk's people in the search for Cleopatra's sarcophagus on Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6.

So this is what we've got to look forward to? Where in the World is Cleopatra's Remains?

Following the Clues -- Tall - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

This works in a nice, taut two-hour Indiana Jones movie. But I'm beginning to wonder about dragging it out over the summer months.

If it weren't for the subplots, this could get old fairly quickly. Derivative is one thing; monotonous is another.

A Brief Encounter - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

So far, so good on that front.

Danny was correct to bring in Lexi, and not just for the sexual chemistry.

Her connections in the illicit art underground are one of their main sources of leads in the hunt for Cleopatra. While Danny was lining up a group of suspects, Lexi was already in touch with one of them, who gave her a line on one of Farouk's buyers.

If you need to venture into a gray area, team with someone who is accustomed to making a living there.

Tech billionaire Jessica Wong, who Fabi had described as dangerous, ended up being duped by Farouk, with whom she didn't realize she was in bed.

Farouk had, in essence, exchanged some of his ill-gotten Egyptian antiquities for an important parcel of land in the Spanish mountains.

The Next Destination - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

Danny managed to bluff the location of that purchase out of Jessica, threatening a raid by nonexistent law enforcement. He's learning new skills after hanging around with Lexi.

You had to love the old Western vibe with this portion of the treasure hunt: Danny and Lexi riding horses, him in a cowboy hat at which she could snark; an attraction based on a lost train; a treasure map.

Terrorists and mafiosos just added to the excitement.

Another near miss, it turned out. But Danny and Lexi were able to inspire a shootout between the two groups that had held them captive and managed to escape, so not a total loss.

You had to feel badly somewhat for the mobster Carlo, who lost something every time he ran into Danny and Lexi. They can make enemies without even trying.

But hey, at least Danny used his obscure historical knowledge to determine where they were heading next. Casablanca should prove a great location for an adventure next episode.

Happy Lawman - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

The trailer even paid homage to the master in this genre: "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?"

Poor Lexi was still trying to get a handle on her late father, taking a scrap of the letter she found on Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 5 to a forger friend for restoration, to see if her dad and Farouk had actually been in league with each other.

Lexi's forger friend Erica, who Danny had tried to arrest multiple times, declared the letter a forgery, briefly clearing Lexi's father. But the next question became was who would want to frame him.

Erica also told Danny that Lexi had anonymously been helping out others hurt by the explosion which killed her father, raising Danny's opinion of Lexi.

It seems that Danny was right about Lexi being able to move to the side of the angels.

Another wild card promises to be antiquities procurer Simon Hardwick.

Negotiations with a Beat - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

Just like Aiden Shaw (who needs to return soon), the shady Simon appears to have something to contribute to this search for Cleopatra.

It's just not at all clear whose side he's on. His own, I suspect.

After seducing Jessica, he sneaked into her private vault and stole a Brotherhood pendant from a case. (You'd think she would have had all those cases wired for security.)

Simon was investigating the Brotherhood, although why hasn't yet been revealed.

One connection he did unearth was that Lexi's father was a Brotherhood member at some point. Which will certainly be something that she will be looking into in the near future.

Simon obviously thinks there's money to be made when Cleopatra is recovered.

Sneaky Thief - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

He's throwing in with Lexi and Danny because there's nothing to be gained monetarily by working with law enforcement and Farouk held him prisoner for a long while. So it's Lexi and Danny by default, even if Danny doesn't work yet.

Fabi seemed to have changed his strategy. He has decided to stick close to Lexi, exchanging intel with her about how the search is progressing. He is Brotherhood first and police second.

Lexi is accustomed to working in the shadows, so this is a better form of cooperation than being abducted for a quiet chat.

She still is uncertain about how she wants to play things and knows Danny is less likely to color outside the lines than she is.

This series is suffering from the curse of the big cast.

There are a lot of characters who add something to the narrative but only so much screentime.

Secret Encounter - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 6

So to introduce a new character such as Erica or to bring back Simon, we get minimal Father Chuck at the beginning and end of the episode and no Farouk, Anna, or Jay.

They all have pieces of the puzzle but those can't all be unveiled at once.

Here's hoping there's a plan to sew things up by season's end, just in case the series doesn't get renewed.

The powers that be can come up with a new exotic treasure to seek in a second season.

What's Simon's deal?

Who is framing Lexi's father?

Will Lexi end up on the right side?
