Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season Finale Review: Jake Attempts to Bring Down the Commissioner

In retrospect to its previous season finales, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 17 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 18 fell a bit flat.

The cliffhanger wasn't as impactful as usual and seemed a bit repetitive of storylines the series has done in the past.

But despite missing the shock factor, the finale was an hour-long event that fans of the comedy can still easily enjoy.

Meet Caleb - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 17

To say that there was no shock factor at all during the Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 finale might be a bit misleading.

Are they totally shocked? Is Kelly like 'what just happened?'

Jake

A better way to put it is that Brooklyn Nine-Nine elicits twists so often, that it's relatively easy to see them coming.

But just because you know not everything's going to go as planned, doesn't mean you know exactly what's going to happen.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine deserves to be praised for its ability to simultaneously make fans laugh and keep them on the edge of their seat without taking away from the social issues the series manages to address.

Viewers may not be as shocked as they were during the first few seasons of the show, but the character's personalities in addition to the comedy's one-liners do manage to keep us laughing just as hard.

Jake Peralta - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 17

Jake's "suicide squad" lived up to its name, and their mission to bring down the Commissioner presented a golden oppurtunity to bring back past characters who could undoubtfully stir up trouble.

As long as Jake's suicide squad was around, there was no way that anything was going to run smoothly.

Now I know why you refer to this as a suicide squad Peralta. Because I already want to kill myself.

Holt

Wuntch betraying the squad and the Vulture throwing them in jail was a bit surprising, but it didn't make our jaws drop.

Not Amused - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 18

Over the six seasons of the show, we've come to realize that Jake almost always has a plan, even if the audience doesn't know what it is.

We weren't convinced that there wasn't something else going on behind the scenes.

That means Jake's secret plan with Wuntch went to prove what a superior detective Jake is.

Not many people can pull off everything that he can.

What's Holt's expression right now? Would you describe it as 'proud daddy?'

Jake

Although they managed to bring down Commissioner Kelly, not everything went smoothly.

Holt's accidental confession gave Wuntch the authority to demote him to a traffic cop.

Dynamic Trio - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 18

The upside about this is that Terry can stay at the Nine-Nine as a Lieutenant.

For a second we worried that Terry was gone for good.

One-two-two! One-two-two! I sound like a damn choo-choo train!

Terry

But once again, Holt's demotion feels a bit repetitive of what's happened in the past.

It's hard to be too concerned about it when we've been down this road multiple times before.

Overall, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 17 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 18 were two great additions to the show as a

Unfortunately, they felt more like two good episodes than a season finale.

It could be because Brooklyn Nine-Nine set the bar too high in the past.

We have no idea how they could ever beat the time Jake and Rosa were sent to prison.

But we couldn't help but expect just a little bit more to carry us over into the next season, and were slightly disappointed with the anti-climactic end.

Stray thoughts:

  • Was anyone else hoping that Amy would announce a pregnancy in the finale?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 appeared to be building up to it.
  • How often will Gina appear in the seventh season?

We're not sure if Chelsea Peretti has any intention to reprise her role for good, but we won't ever stop hoping.
  • We've got our fingers crossed that we'll get to see Terry embrace his new role as a Liutenant and everything that comes with it.
  • There is one major thing we'll have to wait until next season to find out.

If Holt is a traffic cop, who's the new Captain of the Nine-Nine?
