The adventures of Sheila and Joel Hammond are over.

Netflix is not moving forward with a fourth season of Santa Clarita Diet, it has been announced.

The third and final season launched on the streamer back in March, leaving viewers with a cliffhanger of epic proportions.

Happy Times in Santa Clarita - Santa Clarita Diet

Unfortunately, the cliffhanger will not be resolved thanks to the decision to cancel the series.

“The world had never known a ‘zom-com’ until Santa Clarita Diet, and we’re indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix,” the streamer said in a statement.

“To their endless credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally game, with an uncanny knack for comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to vibrant life, even though one of them was undead."

"We’re grateful to Victor, Drew, and Timothy, along with fellow executive producers Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell and the terrific cast, including Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, and crew for three hilarious seasons for Netflix members to discover for years to come.”

"Like our audience, we were all-in on Sheila and Joel. Their relationship, in the face of incredible adversity, was inspiring to write and to watch. Mostly, they were funny, which in a comedy is important. Working with Drew and Tim, along with the immensely talented Liv and Skyler, was a joy and a once in a lifetime experience," Fresco and exec producer Tracy Katsky said in joint statement Friday.

"Netflix took at chance on this odd show and for that we will always be grateful. They were supportive, ever positive, and appreciative of our work."

"Until about noon today. Still, they were just one phone call away from being a perfect studio. Not bad. Everything ends."

"This was a thing. And so it ended. We’ll miss it but are proud of the work we did and will always appreciate the love and enthusiasm we felt from our audience. It if was up to them, Sheila and Joel would continue for another 10,000 years."

The comedy series focused on everyday suburban real estate agents in Santa Clarita, California.

The couple faced a series of obstacles when Sheila has a physical transformation into a zombie and starts craving human flesh.

As Joel and the family try to help Sheila through her transformation, they have to deal with overbearing neighbors, a trail of dead bodies and a big mystery.

Learning the Ropes - Santa Clarita Diet

Santa Clarita Diet had marketable stars in Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, but it's hard to imagine the series getting another shot elsewhere.

The cancellation is somewhat surprising. The show's most recent season amassed an approval rating of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but Netflix has been on a cancellation spree in recent months.

The online streaming network recently felt the ire of the internet for canceling One Day at a Time after three seasons.

Tools of the Trade - Santa Clarita Diet

While there are efforts to save the series, it's an uphill battle because of the aggressive terms about moving a Netlflix series to another streamer.

Netflix also got a lot of pushback from viewers for canceling its entire Marvel slate, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage after an apparent dispute with Disney.

Netflix has been open about shows needing to hit certain viewership metrics within 28 days to be in contention for additional seasons, but given that it's been just three weeks since Santa Clarita Diet launched, it seems the numbers were not close to hitting the goal.
