13 Times A Million Little Things Told Us It Was Ok To Laugh

at .

A Million Little Things began with Jon's suicide. Since then we've witnessed Rome struggling with depression, Maggie battling cancer, and the fallout from Eddie and Deliah's affair, so yes, as the promos promised, there have been plenty of tearjerking moments.

However, this show is too smart to let itself only be about anger and sadness and isn't afraid to be silly or snarky. The lighthearted moments demonstrate how important humor is in any aspect of life, even you're grieving. They also make sad moments all the more devastating.

The show's tone often turns on a dime, which means the audience doesn't always get a chance to really appreciate every sarcastic one-liner or crazy gesture. Let's change that and take a look back at some of the times A Million Little Things wanted us to laugh through our tears.

1. Gina And Gary Dated?! - Season 1 Episode 1

Rome gleefully revealing Gary and Gina once went on a date was funny the first time. However, once we got to know everyone a lot more, the idea of Gary and Gina dating becomes even funnier in hindsight. Here's hoping we'll someday get a flashback of that momentous event.

2. Secondhand Decorations And One Cookie - Season 1 Episode 3

Eddie and Rome's idea of celebrating Gary's birthday is to decorate with leftovers from Theo's birthday party and to bring one cookie. Poor Gary, as if he didn't have enough hangups about the day already.

3. Eddie Rallies Working Moms - Season 1 Episode 5

Oh no, Katherine is going to miss Theo's class production of Snow White! It's up to Eddie to stall. What does he do -- he gives Theo's teacher an earful about how unfair it is for working moms to miss out on seeing their kids perform -- causing other working moms to join in and voice their own complaints.

4. Gary Dares To Sing And Dance - Season 1 Episode 7

Maggie only dared Gary to sing Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" in the middle of a crowded restaurant. He came up with the dance moves and the idea to pull Maggie into the act on his own. Judging from the audience's reaction, they should definitely take this on the road.

5. Rome And Eddie See Katherine With Hunter - Season 1 Episode 8

Seeing Katherine with her hot date was awesome. Listening to Rome describe said date to Eddie as "... a chocolate George Clooney with a caramel Gosling center" made it even sweeter.

6. Can't Hold Back Jon And Kevin's Dance Moves - Season 1 Episode 9

Gary protests every time Kevin puts on "Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, but even he can't hold back the laughter when Jon and Kevin start dancing along to it.

7. Gina's Dreams - Season 1 Episode 9 & Season 1 Episode 10

Gina is the exception to the rule that other people's dreams make for boring listening. She once dreamt about having an argument with Ferris Bueller over whether Abe Froman really was "The Sausage King of Chicago." Her recurring dream of Rome cheating on her isn't as funny, but her and Rome's banter about it certainly is.

8. Merry Gary - Season 1 Episode 10

Merry Gary - he's fun for the entire family. He'll pass out regifted presents. He will guilt trip people who dare to cut in line at the Christmas tree lot. Best of all, he does it while wearing a light up Christmas sweater.

9. Eddie And Sophie "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" - Season 1

Eddie and Sophie came up with a new version of "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree." Lyrics like how lucky Danny was to get a regifted fishing pole, Maggie having to pay for everyone's meal, and how Gary's sweater looks better on Eddie could make this a new Christmas standard.

10. The Elevator Story - Season 1 Episode 11

Who says origin stories need to be tragic? Whether they're trying to figure out how to get themselves out of a stuck elevator or sharing who they want to spend their last meal with -- Jon, Gary, Eddie, and Rome play off each other so well that every other line makes you laugh.

11. The Gang Gets Maggie To The Finish Line - Season 1 Episode 11

Thanks to Gary's spicy language, Rome tying his shoelaces in front of a truck, and Eddie trying to distract the driver with car talk -- Maggie is able to finish a 5k run.

12. Katherine And Carter In Friend Mode - Season 1 Episode 13

Katherine and Carter are definitely the duo you want working on your case, but they're way more fun to watch when they're in friend mode. Every time Carter screams in delight or calls Katherine a smokeshow, we're just as giddy as she is.

13. Omar Charms Maggie - Season 1 Episode 15

We sympathize with you, Rome. Watching your brother get a free pass on everything is incredibly frustrating. At least he and Gary got to snark about Omar's brazen attempt to charm his way into Maggie's ... heart.
