Legacies Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Maybe I Should Start from the End

at .  Updated at .

That was a breath of fresh air.

Legacies Season 1 Episode 8 finally lifted the lid on the truth about Malivore, and it resulted in an installment filled with answers, family drama, and sending viewers on a whole new path.

Landon confronting his mother was never going to play out as well as the teenager hoped it would in his mind.

But I never expected to be introduced to a whole government conspiracy about lifting the veil between worlds.

Seylah being this Men in Black-like keeper of the peace was a perfect direction to take this storyline. The truth is, I couldn't tell whether she was lying for much of "Maybe I Should Start at the End."

It was apparent there was going to be more to the story than her taking Landon to her home and allowing him to get acquainted with her furry friend.

My only major issue with Seylah's story was that she claimed to be in hiding from anything related to Triad.

If that was the case, why was she working in a coffee shop with the name she had when Landon was conceived?

Surely anybody in that situation would start living under an alias. I know I would, but then I again, I didn't lose two years of my life and wind up pregnant to some supernatural being.

Oh yeah, we know Landon's father is likely of the supernatural variety, but I'm not sold entirely sold on Seylah's story.

She was right about Triad, but how do we know she didn't have a stronger relationship with the place than she was leading us to believe?

Hell, the woman did not spill all of her secrets. We need to keep this show moving along so what she told our heroes was on a need-to-know basis.

I'm also not convinced she sacrificed herself. I get that she was stabbed and roughed up prior jumping into Malivore, but she already supposedly had a two-year stint in that hell dimension, so there's that.

Landon's Struggle - Legacies Season 1 Episode 8

The agent posing as the gas man was predictable. It was very reminiscent of the time Mystic Falls was shut down for a gas leak.

The agent was doing that on a much smaller scale during this installment, but he did follow it up by chucking one of the workers into Malivore.

Did he do that to make the man forget the photo, or was there something else going on during that scene?

We're still not privy to what goes on when people travel through the tar ... aside from the fact that everyone forgets about them.

I have to say; this show continues to go from strength to strength. I didn't think it was possible for the creative forces to craft another meaningful supernatural plot.

I Have Better Magic! - Legacies Season 1 Episode 4

But after eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries, and five seasons of The Originals, it's clear that there's still a lot of life left in this universe.

As for Hope, there has to be a reason why she remembered everything after Seylah's supposed sacrifice.

We're probably supposed to put it down to her status as one of the most powerful beings around, but that would just be too easy.

These villains are popping up the moment another one dies, so the ruler of this hell dimension has got to be more powerful than Hope, right?

Hope was right to take all of this to Alaric because it made him realize that the government is more involved in the supernatural world than we have been led to believe all these years.

The Truth About Landon - Legacies Season 1 Episode 5

If there's Malivore, it makes me question what else is really out there.

Hope's plan to put the bracelet on the creature was some quick thinking, and it allowed us to witness just how cutthroat Triad was to the people who helped.

The explosive device also confirmed the creatures helping out were not being given any sort of reward for their efforts. The necromancer would be livid at taking the knife back and being killed off.

Then there's poor Landon. He's out of the loop once again because of his mother's decision. Hell, the kid doesn't even remember laying eyes on the woman who brought him into this world.

Maybe it's for the best because knowing that she might have ended her life for him is enough to send him off the deep end.

Laying Down the Law - Legacies Season 1 Episode 1

I'm thankful that Alaric realized that Landon was best kept at the school. He's a supernatural creature and deserves to be a student there.

The kid has struggled with a sense of belonging, and now that he has a school and home in which some of the students accept him, he's going to be happy for the first time in his miserable life.

If you've been on the fence about Handon being for real, then this hour should have brought you right on board.

They have so much chemistry and also so much in common that I could not imagine them being romantic with any of the other characters.

A highlight was Hope's comment about her first kiss being with the 90-year-old vampire who murdered her mother. That was golden.

Help Me, Please! - Legacies Season 1 Episode 1

The other big positive from the trip was that it allowed Alaric and Hope to hash out their differences. They shouldn't have been on opposing sides, to begin with, but sometimes things don't work out the way you think they will.

Alaric wants the best for Hope, especially after everything that's happened in her short existence. He's like what Aunt Jenna was to Elena on The Vampire Diaries Season 1 and The Vampire Diaries Season 2 all those years ago.

"Maybe I Should Start from the End" was an exposition-heavy episode that finally gave us a sense of direction. We're just halfway through Legacies Season 1, and things are not going to get any better for these characters.
