Chucky TV Series Eyed at Syfy

A killer doll is headed to Syfy!

The cable network has confirmed it has landed the rights to a potential TV series based on Chucky.

The man who created Chucky all those years ago is on board to spearhead this new project. Yes, we're talking about Don Mancini.

The TV series will explore Chucky “with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

Chucky is already a well-known figure thanks to his countless appearances in horror movies over the years. Starting with Child's Play in 1988, the red-haired doll went on to appear in six sequels.

The most recent of which was The Cult of Chucky. The future of the franchise was in limbo following that movie, but then came the news that New Line Cinema was working on a modern-day reboot of Child's Play.

That reboot went ahead without Don Mancini working on it, and is slated to release later this year.

However, word of a Chucky TV series gathered steam last summer when Mancini took to Twitter with the following:

“It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached,” said Bill McGoldrick, President, Scripted Content, NBCU Cable Entertainment, in a statement.

“We look forward to working with Don, David, and Nick on putting their blood, sweat, and more blood into bringing the Chucky story to television.”

There are no other details at this stage aside from the news that a TV iteration is in development.

As always, we'll keep you up to speed on any developments when they are announced.
