The Soul Squad is ready to change some lives on The Good Place Season 3 Episode 6.
While it was still a bit underwhelming in comparison to past seasons, the most current story is quite entertaining, despite it being a bit weak.
Although it could easily get old fast, the Soul Squad's mission may be able to run its course well and create a fun setup going into the second half of the season.
After discovering the existence of the afterlife, Eleanor and her friends have accepted that the Good Place is no longer an option for them. But instead of living out their lives free of morality, they decide to help others rack up some afterlife points.
That is enormous progress for every single one of the characters, as it is the first time that we can be sure that their motives are entirely selfless. While one could argue that their motives have been selfless in the past, it's impossible to truly know as long as The Good Place was in the back of their minds.
They say who you really are is how you act when no one's watching and Team Coackroach is a wonderful example of this theory.
Now that they're free of that weight so to speak, they could live out their lives however they wish no matter how wrong it may be. But by choosing to use their time on Earth to make the world better, they're unknowingly proving that they belong in The Good Place after all.
Going off of what Michael says about The Good Place, knowing of its existence automatically corrupts a person's motivation to be good. But now that everyone truly believes they're going to the Bad Place aren't their actions once again considered selfless?
It seems like The Good Place may not be out of the cards for them just yet, but it will obviously come as a surprise for the characters if they ever do end up there for real.
In the meantime, Eleanor and her friends have made it their mission to save the souls of their families and friends.
Tahani and Michael assist Jason who goes to help his father, a criminal named Donkey Doug.
The Donkey Doug who was banned from Disney World for biting Buzz Lightyear?Tahani
Jason's dad was always getting mixed up bad situations due to his countless "get rich quick" schemes. When he and Jason reunite, he acts more like a selfish partner in crime than an actual father.
While it seemed like Donkey Doug wasn't going to change anytime soon, sacrificing himself so Jason could get away from the cops was ultimately a cute (and comedic) moment.
I know I haven't been the best father in the world. I might not have even been in the top five. I wanna make up for that. I'll distract them, you run out the back.
Meanwhile, Chidi decides that he and Simone just won't work now that he knows about the existence of the afterlife.
Chidi's reasons for breaking up with Simone seemed a bit unclear. Initially, he claimed that knowing about The Good Place could put Simone in danger and even messed up her chances of eventually getting in. However, he later stated that his feelings for her are not the same as they were before.
Chidi: Here's the truth: You're amazing. And my feelings have changed. I wish I could tell you why, I really, really do. But, I can't.
As Chidi has stated several times throughout the episode and the series, he can't lie. So does that mean that his relationship with Simone honestly did just fizzle out?
While comedic, Chidi's virtual reality attempts to break up with Simone all turned out disastrous. It was no surprise the real one went so badly.
In fact, the best attempt was when Eleanor tried to break up with Simone for Chidi and ended up almost kissing her. Although the series may use small moments to showcase it, The Good Place never erases Eleanor's bisexuality and continuously reminds us of its existence as it's a part of who she is.
When it comes to Eleanor's romantic life, she and Chidi still haven't become anything more than friends on Earth. Their connection is just as strong as we've seen in the past, but with Simone in the picture, nothing between them has come to fruition.
Now that Chidi and Simone have ended their relationship, it's possible that Eleanor and Chidi will be pushed back together. There was usually something specific that triggered Chidi's feelings for Eleanor in the past, so it's entirely possible that they won't go there at all this season.
However, that does seem unlikely with how integral Chidi and Eleanor's romance has been to the show. The series will probably want to keep the "will they/won't they" aspect of their relationship alive for as long as they can.
Overall, The Good Place Season 3 Episode 6 was a good addition to the season. It still feels like it lacks what made it tremendous in the first place, which are the elements of the supernatural and endless amounts of twist and turns.
So the thing is, one of your parents is not technically, actually, dead.Janet
Finding out Eleanor's mother was still alive at the end of the episode was unexpected, but it still didn't feel like a huge shock, as Eleanor's relationship with her mom wasn't a huge part of the series, to begin with.
With the Soul Squad out to save the day and Eleanor ready to track down her mother, we've got our fingers crossed that next week things will finally pick up.
