Sarah Drew No Longer Watches Grey's Anatomy: It's "Painful" to "Watch Your Family Move On"

Sarah Drew no longer watches Grey's Anatomy.

The actress who was fired from the long-running medical drama has decided against keeping up to speed with Grey's Anatomy Season 15

I haven’t been watching,” she admitted to reporters at the 2018 Rape Foundation annual brunch in Beverly Hills on Sunday.

“You know, it‘s a little painful to kind of go and watch your family move on without you.”

She added: "I wish everybody the best and I know they're having a wonderful time."

Drew's comments come less than a  week after Grey's Anatomy showrunner, Krista Vernoff, admitted to TV Line that there's a chance for her to come back down the line.

"Never say never," Vernoff declared to the website.

"That's what I said when people asked me if I was coming back to Grey's when I left season 7. I said, 'Never say never', and look," she added.

"I'm not promising anything for this season. But at Shondaland, those doors are open."

It was revealed in March that Drew would be exiting alongside her co-star, Jessica Capshaw after both of their contracts was not picked up for additional seasons.

Both actresses were beloved by fans, and that probably explains why there were threats to boycott the series if they were not reinstated.

In fact, there were even claims that both exits were down to Ellen Pompeo signing a $20 million deal for her salary.

The only glimmer of hope is that they both exited without being killed off. Shondaland has a knack for offing characters during season finales, and with viewers knowing they were leaving, it was a foregone conclusion.

However, Grey's Anatomy Season 14 ended on a seemingly happy note, with April finding love again, and Arizona making her way back to New York to allow her daughter to be close to her mother, Callie.

I was told that the show had too many characters and that they needed to downsize because they couldn’t service all of the characters effectively,” Drew stressed to The Hollywood Reporter in August.

“They didn’t want any of us to be left in the background and not getting much of a story. Because there were so many series regulars, they needed to downsize and to find some characters that they felt like they could tie up their stories well.”

April in Charge?

There's no question about whether Grey's Anatomy has a large cast but from a creative standpoint, nobody can deny that Arizona and April still had a lot of stories left to be told.

If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you will know that Drew's on-screen ex, Jackson is having a crisis of faith. Wouldn't it present the perfect opportunity for Drew to check in with him?

It was only a few months ago that April was going through a similar scenario on the show.
