Manifest will take flight for a few weeks longer at NBC.

The Peacock network has handed a three-episode back order to the new drama series, making for a total first season consisting of 16 episodes.

The backorder comes just four episodes into Manifest Season 1, which has solidified itself as a strong performer in the ratings. Manifest Season 1 Episode 1 debuted to 10.4 million total viewers and a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49 back in September.

Numbers for the premiere swelled to 18.4 million viewers, and a 4.2 rating with seven days of DVR viewing factored in. These results made it NBC's most-watched drama series debut in 19 years, since the debut of Third Watch.

Despite the strong launch, the numbers have softened somewhat, with Monday's episode securing 7.5 million viewers and a 1.5 rating. Still, it was the highest-rated scripted series of the night, narrowly edging out Fox's 9-1-1

The true test will be whether the series can show signs of stability after dropping every week thus far. The shorter episode order is thought to be a creative decision in order to keep the show fresh.

Manifest focuses on a select group of individuals who emerged from Flight 828 to find that they've been missing for over five years. For the passengers, no time has passed, but their family members have all started the process of moving on.

Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J. R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, and Parveen Kaur star in the series.

Far too often when a TV series shows the slightest semblance of success, networks order nine additional episodes. While Manifest has emerged as a high-concept drama with a procedural twist, 16 episodes should be enough to keep things moving along at a brisk pace.

Various hit shows have shorter orders nowadays. Empire clocks in at 18 episodes per season, and the same goes for This Is Us.

Manifest is the fourth TV show to snag a full season order, behind Single Parents, New Amsterdam, and FBI
